My U2 Cabinet Design

Alright, so I'm in my 6th day of 12/12 on my first grow, and I've decided I want to build another cab. I might do another grow or two in the one I have now, but I'd definitely like to upgrade.

Veg: 24"h*14.5"w*14.5"d = 1.46 sq ft
Flower: 34"h*14.5"w*14.5"d = 1.46 sq ft

Veg: 4*20w 6500k CFL = ~55wpsf
Flower: 150w HPS = ~100wpsf

Veg: One Mother + Three Clones (1-15 days old)/One vegging plant (Best of three cuts)(15-30 days old)
Flower: Two plants, each 30 days apart. When one is harvested, one gets brought in from veg, and three new cuts are taken.

There will be two 4" circular darkroom vents about 6" from the bottom, on the side of the veg chamber. From the top of the veg chamber to the bottom of the flower chamber there will be two 4" PVC light trap passive vents. The HPS will be in a cooltube, connected directly to the electrical chamber. In the electrical chamber will be a power strip to plug everything into, and a DIY CAN-style carbon scrubber, probably about 6" long. Between this and the outside wall of the electrical chamber will be a 4" vortex inline fan.

The reason I split the cab right down the middle is so that I can go into the veg chamber while the flowering chamber is dark. I plan on having like a half inch board screwed all along the border of the cab, to help ensure there are no light leaks. I plan on stapling black felt cloth along the sides of the doors, over the hinges.

What's everyone think? I know the 150w HPS is a bit much, and it may be too much, but it's what I have right now. What would be better suited for this setup? Could I yield an oz per month with a 70w HPS? If at all possible I'd like to use a 150w, but if it's out of the question I'll look into other options.

Edit: If necessary, I could upgrade to a 6" Vortex type fan (is there a better or quieter brand than vortex, but same design?) and instead of two 4" circular dark room vents, just use one 8"x8" square darkroom vent, and upgrade the PVC to 6", along with the cooltube/ducting.

Edit 2: After looking around, I can get a 100w HPS Bulb + Ballast for like $50, and I think that would make the temps a lot easier to deal with. Might end up doing that...

Bounty29-

I'm about 3 days behind you on my first grow.....so I can't offer you much...

But...since you already have the 150w......

Maybe this could give you some ideas...?

My U1/U2 combo cab:

150w hps, cool tube, Dayton 134cfm, couple cfl's in the U1. (4) 8x8 louvers.

Under construction pics:

The drawer is Faked out. This allows for more head room. This is looking up in the U1. (Where the drawer used to be)

And the bottom of the U1, but you get the idea.......Again, these pics are from construction...... the cfl's and electrical box will be moved to a different spot in the U1.

Oh yeah.... I have (3) 4" fans to keep the air moving even more.

Good Luck with your grow.....

I'll be watchin'.

Couple more:

Hey Bounty

I had no intention of jacking your thread...... just thought it might help you to make a decision.

With a cab this size... a 6" vortex is overkill, actually a 4" vortex is a lil big. (These fans are 8.5"x9.5"x4") There is not alot of space in these cabs.

Ventilation is KEY......These little cabs get hot.

I would go with the 100w and the 4" vortex. If you can make it fit correctly.

Another idea for your ventilation is a "mini lasko blower". They can be had at Wal-mart...etc. With a little mod, I'm sure it would work very well. Plus they run about $12 to $15.
It would be a lot cheaper than the vortex.....just an idea.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Be lucky and be safe.

anybody try that industrial hardware supplier that gives you factory prices? I forget the name offhand, I know you can call them and they'll find a vortex at your local electrical supply place and it saves you $40-50

Hey everyone!

Bongasaurus - These mini lasko blowers are very quiet.......silent when compared to my dayton 134cfm...LOL. They will produce a very small amount of "air movement" noise..... They are definately a good alternative source for ventilation in the micro grows. Two speeds and they will adjust forward or backward, which equates into more ways to mount them. They simply pull air in on both sides (you can see the holes on the side of the blower in the pic) I scored this one for $8. The small fans that I have in my cab were only $2, but they rang up for $1!! If you catch the sales at the beginning of Sept. (depending where you live) All the fans and assorted "summer stuff" goes on sale. Sorry for the out of focus pics........

Oh yeah.....I love that custom stanley reflector you have..... and the woodgrain floor goes so well with the duct tape and plastic!!

I'm just messin' with you.....bro.

Hope this helps.

Be lucky and be safe.

i think you should give your flowering some more space on the horizontal. 14.5" is PLENTY of space for a mom and 3 clones, shit i'm using about 10.25. use that extra space for some extra buds

Sorry I kinda abandoned this thread, I've had a lot going on in the past few days.

Hmm... I like how the U1/U2 combo looks, I might have to rethink some things.

Edit: What did the U1 and U2 cost, and did you get the U7 countertop thing? Is that what you've got on top there? I think that combo would be perfect for the 32" TV I'll be getting soon...

How did you fake the drawer? I'd definitely like to do that as well if I were to get this. And one more question... How tall is the little bottom foot thing?
