Starting First Ever Grow.
Hey guys, Just getting my grow started up, waitng for the seeds.
I'm very new at this, been on the site for about a couple weeks, so any critisim would be great. My Grow box is is about 2 feet high, foot across and a foot in depth, maybe a foot and a half. I'm Looking to fit about one plant (possibly two small ones) in that grow space. I know it wont produce alot of bud - I'm not too concerned as I am not a hardcore smoker, I just need a couple g's a week for my personal use. I am hoping to use the SCROG method, just because I personally like the look of it better (I know, very weak reason but it seems like a good idea in the small area I have by looking at some SCROG grows on the site). I am looking at using either 1 or 2 13W mini HPS lights (I dont think ive found any grows on this site that use that little wattage so far - give me a heads up if you think two is too much). The seed of choice for my operation so far is the Grapefruit from female seeds, from the OG strainguide it sounds like an easy seed to grow, and smell is not an issue. I read on the strainguide you can start the seed straight from 12/12 which would be more convienent for me - once again constructive critisim and tips would be great. I was also looking to use one of the fans with the built in carbon or filter, so i could save on space within the box. I know I may sound like a complete newbie, but it's because I am one. Any help would be nice. Thanks! |

your space can have way more lighting. instead of 2 small 13watt. try a 40watt cfl and get two or three, just get a powerstrip and lightbulb connecters so you can plug it into the powerstrip.

Dont waste time and space with small lamps, get some 25W or up.
The amount of light energy spent on the plants is directly related to its power. No need for a US$1k setup, but lamps play enormous part on growing. |

Snider, I'm going to have to disagree with you. I used 13w lights for vegging (eight of them) and the plants did pretty damn good. Each plant had three 6500k lights over it and one 2700k light, all of which were 13w.
The two middle CFLs were removed, one broke and I just took the other out to make it even. With many smaller lights, as opposed to one larger light, you get a better spread of light, which lets you train the plants to be closer to the ground. LST all the way!

1 x 1.5 x 40 watts per square foot = 60. Have at least 60 watts florescent. More = better
