LED lights vs HPS,MH, and compact Flourescents
Hi everyone at ICMag. Im in a dilema that im hoping i can get some solid answers to. I recently got into a heated debate with a friend who insisted that LED lights were the best for growing cannabis and that this site is biased towards other light systems. We argued and argued until we eventually just dropped the subject. Well i got a call this morning and it was him saying that he did some research and that he was glad he did. He said he found the most energy efficient and best yielding method to growing herb and that it involved using LED lights. So here i am with the question What lighting system would be ideal for indoor cannabis growing. I havent heard anything about LED lights for growing cannabis untill he brought it to my attention. He also said that lumens have nothing to do with the plant growing and producing. He said its all in the color spectrum. Can someone please give me some answers on this subject because Id hate to be wrong and him be right.

LED's do have the potential to be better. It's a little before its time right now. But I am working on a project that will power 400 watts worth of led's. I'm custom making it.
You can buy prebuilt systems, but they really suck for growing herb. They only supple 2 wavelengths, where as a there are over 7 ideal wavelengths that need to be hit for growing good, otherwise it can be really weak. https://www.*****.com/boards/index.php?showtopic=62193 go check out that link |

I would go with T5's if your trying not to use HPS and want more efficient/cool lighting. I have seen LED hoods for saltwater fishtanks and they are really great and their are probably some out their that would work for growing but at this point in time it is just too pricey and would be really hard to do on your own. You just can't get them same color spectrum's with LED's but I'm sure that is all about to change if it hasn't already. Good luck. I personally use LED's for my desk light (30 of them in a disk) and also use them to light my poker table. But not for growing yet. That would just be some state of the art stuff.

Well, in another 2 months I will have my setup done and I will be willing to take orders if someone wants one. My system is going to be VERY KICK ASS, where as it will be microchip controlled utilizing PWM with a duty cycle as low as %0.5 for extreme power savings.

Hashy you have only two realistic options for co2 enrichment,a co2 tank and regulator or a co2 generator, anything else you hear about producing co2 paintball cannisters, yeast etc is all bunk

Are those co2 generators safe to use indoors? I have a few cats to worry about. Also how do co2 generators work? Do u just turn em on and leave em on or only during light phase or what? thx Skeletor
