Trouble popping Shark Shock

Myself and a friend bought 3 packs off Seedbay. I started 6 seeds, he started 2 whole packs. I do the 24hour soak, then paper towel. Temps at about 80. Each one was tough to pop open, then 3 died right after they opened.

Same thing happened to my buddies 2 packs, the ones that opened died right away.

Anyone else having this problem?

Update, the other 3 died as well, right after popping. Temps at 78 degrees under flouro light. Am trying 5 more at 74-75 degrees as I think that the heat may be the deciding factor. I will post continued updates.

Hi SW

sounds a little bit strange to me as once the seeds pop the plants should grow on...unless somewhere along the path to you they got exposed to heat or ?
Which country did the beans get sent to, if you do not mind me asking? All the best Sb

Firstly, I don't mean to speak ill of your work kind sir. I appreciate you and the work you've done for the community.

We're in the U.S. Temps have been between 78-80. I am trying 5 of them at 74-75 now. I dont think it was too much heat.... but every strain is different.

That sounds like an odd problem. Usually its getting them to pop, but ive never known about large quantities of seeds dying after they crack. What is the humidity like? and are you using a humidity dome? ph of the water? when the root comes out is it getting stuck to the paper towel?

I was about to order some shark shock too, maybe ill have to wait until i find out what issues are making your beans die. goodluck and hopefully you can get things on the right track! - xH

What medium are you using? Any nutes? Have you sprouted any other seeds recently besides SS for a side by side. I have sprouted lots of seeds successfully in the past, but lately things seem to be dampeneing off a lot more than normal.....like only 30% of germed grow on to be healthy.....it happened with some MNS stock, as well as some stock whiich I had made, so I know its something I am doing, not the seeds fault as they all popped fine...Just goes to show things don't always go as planned

guess its just me, lol

Temps at 78. Humididome (tupperware container - paper towel method) the dont do anything after they crack open - so no nutes, no medium, no roots to catch anything.

Had no trouble popping the Dream Goddess freebies. Shit happens sometimes. To me mostly.

Update - 74-75 seems to be the optimum temps. Of the 5 - 4 popped. 3 made it to light warrior. 1 died right after popping. Of the 3 in soil, only 1 has it's first set of leaves although it's struggling. The other 2 are just cotelydens (sp?); no real leaves. I am sure that my order got sent through some kind of xray machine or heat ray or alien freaking vortex....

The last 6 of this pack were soaked 18 hours, all 6 have popped and are in paper towels at 75 degrees. I will transplant to light warrior as soon as their tap roots are long enough. I will follow up.

Update - the 2 without a second set of leaves are slowly developing some... the one that was struggling is doing much better today. If I can keep them from damping off, they will be good. 3 of the last 6 are in light warrior. I'm givin her all shes got!

Last update. Of the last 6 - only 4 actually popped after all. 3 went into soil, 1 died right after popping. The 6 I now have in soil are doing nicely. I am going to pray that at least one is a keeper pheno as I have been jonesing this strain for a while.

I did order 3 more packs, so we will try again as well. Shanti has sent me a pm and I'm sure he will make it right, but it probably was the postal system... The slow growth, weird mutations and general lack of vigor make me think that somehow they got irradiated. Wish me luck folks. I will update this thread occasionally for those interested.
