Pot Sizes In a Micro Grow Scrog Set-Up?
I am wondering what pot sizes people use to scrog their plants in a micro grow. I know everyone uses different sizes but I am stuck on trying to figure out what size pots would create a good roots before each transplant.

i'd go from having seedlings in the "red plastic keg party cups" to flowering in a rubbermaid tub or something similar . a 4 gallon tub would work nice...something about 6-8 inches deep
that way the roots will have more room to freely grow |

I go from 10 oz beer cups to 6" pots to 8" pots to 10" pots. I think the soil volume doubles for each 2" increase in size. You want let the plant develop until it is becoming rootbound before the next transplant. Sticking a small plant in too large a pot is an easy mistake to make and will lead to overwatering and underdevelopment of the roots.
BigfatJ pioneered the Super Simple Simple SCROG method using an 8" pot with an expanded coathanger taking up 1 square foot. I follow this method for a two plant grow in my box and make up a custom screen using a 10" pot. Oh yeah, the size of the pot and corresponding roots affect the yeild and size of the plant. I think 1 oz per gallon is the rule of thumb. Last edited by Red_Greenery; 10-22-2006 at 11:59 PM.. |

I'm using 6qt Sterlite tubs for my current grow. I started the seeds in the party cups, and as soon as I saw roots coming through the holes in the bottom I moved them up to the tubs. They're about 1.5 gallons, 6" tall, 6" wide, and about 12" long. They roots pretty much covered the bottom and sides in another two weeks, and they're going into 12/12 as we speak.

hey red ,how are you? my thoughtwas that he was trying to grow the max # of plants
in his given area in a scrog style grow. he can veg his cutings for 2-3 weeks easy in the 'beer cups" and at that point i would put them into the scrog set up and also into flower . once the plant is traind in the scrog, theres going to be no real good way at all to transplant and some of the best soil scrogs i've seen have been done in tubs not pots. ...but i'm a hydro grower so what do i know, just my thoughts you know, keep it simple eh? hey mtnjohn, doin' real fine tonight. If memory serves, BFJ had a perpetual harvest going and with about 6 plants and he found the 8" pot and 1' square screen was optimimum for yeilding. His harvests were staggered so he was continually introducing plants. Slicker than hell.
No he went from cuttings in beer cups to a larger pot and vegged for a while. His trick was to trim off the top and put the screen on. He vegged for a bit then put the plant into flowering. His would fill the screen during the stretch in early flowering. He had a clone box and a veg box and had the timing down to a science. I've transplanted during flowering and once with a screen on. It's no big deal if the plant is below the screen. I agree with the tubs vs pots because thee bigger the pot size you can get, the more roots and more yield. Same as hydro. Hey Bounty - I monitor my water cycles and wait for the plant to begin getting rootbound before transplanting. I transplant when the water cycle gets down to 1 to 2 days. If you transplant too early, the plant will get overwatered and not develop it's roots and it cuts the yield down. Last edited by Red_Greenery; 10-23-2006 at 06:19 AM.. |

Hey Red, if you wanna check it out, I've posted some pics of my plants and how the roots are looking over in the Grower's Forum.
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.p...896#post659896 The seedlings went for about 2.5 weeks in the party cups, and then into the tubs I was talking about. They've been in the tubs for about 10 days now. You can see how well the roots took in the thread linked above. I'd like to have a larger pot, but I really can't afford to lose any more vertical space so I had to keep with the shallow, wider pots. I just started 12/12, so we'll see how it works out! |

hey bounty - the plants look really good. Bigger pots/tubs would be better. I just hope they don't get rootbound too early.
