MOD's DreamGoddess & FMS GFxNL CFL Grow
Howdy folks. I’m working on my first grow in a few years and I thought I’d start a thread where I can post some pics and hopefully get a few ?’s answered. Here is the setup:
Plants: 7 of MODs “Dreamgoddess” from seed, 1 FMS Grapefruit x Northen Lights from seed. Pots: Seedlings are in ~1 liter pots with rocks or broken pieces of pot in bottom for drainage Soil: OSH Ready to Use Potting Soil (.19-.20-.06) Lighting: 94w CFLs on seedlings. Planning on 200w of CFLs for Veg and ~250w CFLs for flowering. Box: 17" x 28" x 29" (d,w,h). So that’s about 8 cubic feet with a 3.3 square ft footprint. Ventilation: 4" exhaust fan (not sure of the CFMs). I also have a desk fan on lowest setting in the box to help with circulation. Growing Method: SCROG or LST I’m hoping to flower the GFxNL and 1 or 2 of the DG’s after a couple weeks veg. So what do you people think? Still not sure how many plants to keep (2 or 3), what feeding sched/fertz to use, and so on. Any pointers or comments are greatly appreciated. I will update with more info and pics in a few days. your potting soil looks like its gonna have plenty.......if not too many nutrients to start the seedlings. If it was me, i wouldn't add any ferts until the plants are at least a few inches high, you might want to consider throwing in some extra perlite just to break up the soil and slightly decrease the concentration of nutes.
keep all plants until you figure out which are male and female. If you need to, once the plants are big enough get a black bag and cover one branch on each plant to cut its light to 8-12 hours per day. this will force the branch to show sex sooner and will tell you what sex the entire plant is without the hassle of cloning and flowering clones. start the seedlings in a smaller container at first so they can develop a stronger rootball. after a week or 3 they will have filled out a beer cup or something of that size and then you can transplant them to the 1 liter pots. you will (probably) want to step up to something bigger than the one liter, even if its just a 2 liter pot, for flowering. make sure to transplant at least a week or so before switching to flower so the plant doesn't go through too much shock at once. thats all ive got to offer for now good luck and grow green

I think nute wise it will be ok since seedlings dont require a ton of water to get the nutes going, but I agree with irish, get a bag of perlite and do it like 40% of your mix. To me, that is very important.

Hey there MJD, welcome to the Micro Grows. Feel free to drop by the Lodge, I have a solid CFL growbox design that's worth looking at for ideas. I can see that your cooling system will need a few tweaks. The coffee pot's on 24/7.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I'm not planning on giving any fertz for awhile just looking for info for when the time comes. I tried to find soil with no fertz but couldnt so i settled on the one with the lowest amount. So far the plants have had only spring water and a shot of B1. I will def mix in a good deal of perilite when I transplant. I would do it now but the plants look very happy and I dont want to cause any extra stress. They should be ready to transplant in a week or two. The DG's are looking great right now. Dark green leaves that have a heavy smell only when you touch them. Can't wait to get some pics up. Last edited by MaryJaneDoe; 10-23-2006 at 11:27 AM.. |

Welcome and good luck with your grow. The DG should work well in a micro gro due to it's pure indica nature.
Peace MOD |

The "Girls" are looking good right now. Gave them another shot of B1 with their watering today. I've been watering about every 3 days with daily misting from a spray bottle.
Over the past few days I've noticed a couple little bugs in the box. I kill them right away and Im always on the look out for more... I hate this feeling. I had spider mite problems in a grow in this same box over a year and a half ago... did i need to sterilize the box or are these problems most likely unrelated? I am trying to keep the humidity up in the box with a spray bottle and a fan blowing onto a bowl of water. In have one freakish looking DG... could it be a "Menage a’ Trois" or is it just a screwball DG pheno? There is a big size difference amongst the 7 DG's. All the seeds popped their heads within 3 days of each other but are exhibiting different growth patterns. It will be easier to explain once I bet a few pics up. The GFxNL is looking good. She popped her head almost a full week after the DG's and is by far the smallest plant in the box. Can't wait to see her grow! Still have the plants under 94w of CFLs and they love it. Dark healthy looking leaves. |
