First Grow, First Box... A Few Questions! *Pics* --Active Updates--

-----------------------------------
>> Update #1 - Page 1, Post 11. Burnt White Satin Head... Really bad... Overgrown Hashberries!
-----------------------------------

This is my first grow. I built and designed the box with the aide of alcohol and the knowledge I acquired from countless hours surfing boards. It keeps temps pretty good (75) during light hours, temps drop @ night. 400w HPS.

Ok, so these pics were taken @ 15 days into flower.

They were all around 9-12 inches when flowered. Box is 3 feet tall. Larger (2gallon) flower pots moved them up another 6 unexpected inches from their previous pots... I didn't calcuate this in when I decided to flower.

I tried the FIM technique on all of them and all it did was stunt their growth... yeah, I missed! On my newest batch I went for topping and I got 2-3 heads out of 60% of them, which is good, imo (better then last time!)

So In teh box I have 5 plants:

Left-most = Hashberry, middle front = troublemaker from Doc Chronic, middle back (hard 2 see) = white satin, Right 2 = hashberry.

And you can see my plants running into trouble, literally (Fans, Wires, ROOF!), in these 2 pics

So, does anyone have any suggestions to keeping the buds from hitting the ceiling (you can almost see it in the pics)? Will the buds hit the ceiling? I'm guessing yes...

I already started to train the taller Hashberries with pipe cleaners/string attached to the screen. It's hard to get a good tilt on them because their stems are so strong. I'm afraid of cracking a stem, too.
Thanks Guys.

try gently rotating(only very gently and very slightly) the stem between your thumb and forefingers, it will make it a bit more supple for the bending

Yes, carefully try to tie down the heads with string and attach it to a bamboo stick that you can stick into each pot. But if they are too firm prune the tops now ...the sooner the better.
Another option is to hang a mesh screen. Check out Speeding Mullet's Kalichakra grow for photos how he did it in his cab:

Hope this helps,

Will I be "topping" the plants? Same type of method?

And I guess while the main colas are still small (mostly leaves and such right now) its better to do it, rather then cutting off good bud.

the stems are thick... and I'm not sure if I'll be able to tilt the plants far enough to the side so that they will fit into the box... its sort of limited space @ all angles.

About how tall will the main stem grow from 2nd week in flower until last week of flower?

The answer to the above question will be the determining factor in if I Chop the tops

yes when Mike said to prune the tops, that's the same as saying top the plants. What you will get are 2 new stems that will not be as sturdy as the main central stem, which will make training easier. You will not be able to finish those plants in that cab single cola, so go and take the tops now. Saying that though, I am assuming that they are from seed rather than cuttings, which could of course be finished any way you wanted.

woops, just noticed they are 2 weeks into flower, erm, I'd take clones from them, too, and flower them shorter next round.

I already took clones from most of the plants... not sure how they're turning out tho. I have them in a perlite wick with just water and a drop of superthrive... just letting them sit with an occasional spray.

Should I cut down a few nodes?

I'll be chopping tomorrow... i just need some advice on how to do this

Is there no way to increase the space available for them? if not, then its best to cut the heads off rather than leeve them next to the light bulb burning. Its really gonna reduce your potential yield, but if its the only way, its the only way. Get a pair of scissors and snip them. I'd do it at lights out though.

LMAO... as I went into look @ the girls in the final minutes beofre the lights go out.. I said to myself "I can't cut their heads off..."

I just cant bring myself to do it.

I'm already planning on building another tent so I guess I'll put these plants in there and the other plants (14) will go in here, they're a lot smaller... and will have to stay in their small pots (6in - just replanted) until they show sex.

I'm vegging them for another 2 weeks because I JUST topped the single cola growers today. I'm happy to say that one of my white satins has 6 heads tho. =]]

Successfully topping the plants @ two weeks has kept the plants VERY stout... I even thought they weren't growing for a while there... I did have an issue one night with 92*F + NO WATER in pots... and yeah... crispy leaves and one dead plant. One is also having a hard time recovering.

But I guess I'll be building that tent sooner then I thought... gotta order the parts and get her together!!!

lol Grass lover, I know how you feel. Topping works wonders, and it sounds like you got it down if you have 6 heads on one. No need to stop there though, you can keep going another layer, and go to 12 heads, topping each head one more time.
