It's true, sometimes. Depends on many things. But F2 generally do have less overall vigor than an F1. But F2 generations will show you genetic possibilities that the F1 generation will not usually let you see. For example, an F1 ak47 from serious seeds will be one of 2 general phenos, but even these 2 phenos are very similar. However, if you make F2s, you'll see a lot of what the F1s offered, but with genetic qualities that were recessive in the first hybridization. That's why F2s are just as good as F1s, but for different reasons. A few F2s will be just as vigorous as the F1. America was once a land of F1 hybrids. When Europeans began breeding with the natives, there were hundreds of thousands of F1 human hybrids. Now we're at about the F4, F5, F6 generation from those original human crossings. People look more diverse now than at the F1 hybridization, but all the genetics brought to the table in the first generation are still present - just not F1s any more. cc

F2's
F2's are a great place to find parents to start new breeding lines. If you start with a pure sativa and a pure indica and cross these to arrive at the F1 generation. When you cross these you arrive at the F2.This generation will show every kind of plant from pure indica to to pure sativa. This is how DJShort discovered the blueberry and others. When he crossed his Sativa thai with an indica afghani he assured himself great genetic diversity in the F2 generation. This is a perfect example of why F2's are so important. His F1 generation was made up of chemical odored plants and when he recrossed these is when he"discovered" his blueberry line. That's the best part about the F2 generation, that you can "find" outstanding individuals. The problem is that with these outstanding plants you will also find several that are not so special.Just as this generation can show the most possibilities in growth patterns,it will also show the full potency spectrum, from extra strong to extra weak! That's why it's always good to grow out several F2's,you might grow only 5 seeds and not even end up with a keeper or you could grow out 10 and end up with 3 or 4 that are so good, you can't decide which ones to keep.
I've "found" some of my favorite plants in the F2 generation.Take care fellas........................ .CC

Thanks CC
So as I understand it, you give up some vigor for diversity. So if there are generally 2 phenos for ak (F1), how many phenos would there be in the f2 gen or would it be impossible to determine?

yes
f2_ square to the 3rd power but if f7 subtracts its pro o sessor it contributes to its decline in anthro sphynxterism
