Stealth Dresser Project
EDIT: Current pics of the dresser
Hello everyone! I've been lurkin around the forums for quite some time now absorbing all the information I can like a sponge and am starting to build a stealth dresser. I think I got a pretty well design going on but wanted to show you guys my basic plan and see what I could improve upon and/or change as this will be my first attempt to do anything with mj other than smoke it. I greatly appreciate any advice anyone can give to me. So without further ado here is my master plan. (My apologizes for my lack of MS paint skills) The dresser Im converting is 3ft tall, 6 1/2ft wide, and 1 1/2 deep. This dresser will contain 2 seperate grow/flower chambers located on each side with the middle bottom serving as a drying chamber and the middle top as the ballasts/timers/electrical section. Each grow/flower chamber will have 4 passive intakes thru the bottom made out of pvc pipes to keep light from leaking. The air will exit out thru the top of the grow/flower chamber down to the bottom of the dry/curing chamber and up thru a carbon scrubber to the electrical chamber where it will be expelled by 3 special low noise computer fans seen here. https://www.coolerguys.com/sff21.html For the lights Im thinking about building cool tubes for them or putting them in a reflector/glass enclosure that will be air cooled, still undecided atm... The carbon scrubber might be a bit different than usual tho. In addition to charcoal I thinkin about adding kitty litter to the mix, another thing still undecided atm... I think that just about covers it. Thank you all for makin me realize that I dont have to pay buku cash for bunk weed but have the option to grow my own. Btw I realized while searching online for lights I discovered a source for cheaper hps lights than econolights. One of the 150 hps are the exact same model as the 150 listed on econo but over 10 bucks cheaper. Heres the link for all that are interested. EDIT: CALL FIRST to make sure they have the lights you want in stock as they are a bit on the the slow side with updating online. https://buyelectrical.securesites.net...gory_Code=l251 Last edited by ninjakuma916; 10-30-2006 at 05:32 AM.. |

Wow man great idea for a setup. That is a really good idea to incorporate the hot air from your exhausts to dry out buds. The only suggestion I have is I hear that running warm air through your scrubber decreases the amount of time that it lasts, but in your case that shouldn't matter too much.
Let's see that baby in action.

Hi Jam
Thanks for the input, I never knew that heat would do that to a scrubber. Hmmm...That has me thinking now. Im might buy the Optimum 4000 if the odor is noticable but maybe I should get it before I start to grow instead of risking the smell. I think that odor is probably my biggest concern, along with whether the 3 computer fans will be adequate to move enough air while being silent.

You have some very good ideas. I do commend you on having it all set up before you start. It is hard to hold back sometimes but you will be glad you did in the long run.
Lots of people have mentioned the idea of an aquarium sitting on the grow box if it is out in the open. Then the noise wouldn't be a problem. Welcome to IC and the micro grows forum, looking forward to watching you grow. |

Thank you very much Pieceofmyheart, IC seems to be alot friendlier than other forums and Im glad to be here. Funny you should mention aquariums. I've got 3 fishtanks in the room Im planning on using (I raise goldfish as a side hobby) plus a computer in it, maybe the noise wont be too noticable?
I'll be takin pics of the construction as I go along, The only thing I've done so far is hollow out the inside and rip the drawers apart. |

Nice design Ninjakuma! As POMH said, it is a darn good thing to have your cab completely built and tested before you put any plants in it. It can be hard to have that kinda patience sometimes but it is well worth the wait.
The only problem I could possibly see occuring with your design is not having enough room in the top middle section to house all of your electrical equipment and a carbon filter. Also, for two 150 watt HPS lights your going to need somewhere in the area of 300 cfm of cooling. That would mean three 120mm 100cfm PC fans for each side of the cab plus a single 300cfm blower hooked up to your carbon filter in the top middle section to maintain good airflow. I know the PC fans are pretty darn quiet as long as you go for something under 30 dBa, but I've never used a real blower fan before and I understand they can be extremely loud. So those are really the only two problems I could see happening here... not enough space in the middle upper section and difficulties controling temps without having it sound like theres a wind tunnel inside your dresser. But nevertheless, your design looks excellent to me! Any thoughts on if your going to do soil or hydro yet? |

I thought the same thing about not having enough space for all the electrical and not having adequate airflow. In order for me to have enough space for the electrical section I plan on using very little for the drying section by installing wire shelving cut to size, seen below, to lay the buds down on instead of hanging them up.
https://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B0002O9HLC As for airflow, thats a different story. I thought the fans I plan to use would provide enough airflow but now am unsure and am thinking about going for the vortex inline fans now, seen below, with maybe insulation around the electrical chamber to cut back on noise. Any suggestions? https://www.plantlightinghydroponics....roducts_id=351 I thinking of either doing a rubbermaid bubbler with scrog to grow, thats the main way Im leanin right now but still havent decided. Im rather picky with my bud and I heard that soil grown taste better. Most likely do one of each and see what I like better. So far I gutted the dresser, and removed the 3 support brackets on the bottom in order to give me roughly 3 more inches of vertical space. There was no bottom on the dresser so I installed a bottom using 3/4 inch partical wood and will be attaching 1 inch slabs of wood on the very bottom to lift the dresser so as to provide adequate intake. I also saved the original middle divider and will be making 3 copies of it( 2 with 1 inch off the bottom and 2 with 1 inch off the top) for the middle section. Ive attached some pictures below to show my progress.

Looks like you're gonna have a nice grow cabinet there. One suggestion, instead of using a 150w HPS for the veg chamber, get some fluorescent tubes. It looks like the chamber would be about 2.5 ft wide, so you could get maybe 4-6 tubes which would be great. You could get lights in the blue spectrum, which is better for vegging, and keep the lights a lot closer, and the heat would be easier to deal with. I can't wait to see how it looks when it's finished. Good luck!
