SOG Growell Insert E&F

I have found a product that is working wonders for me, thought I would pass it on. I use AmerHydro 3x3 e&f tables. I have recently added the 36 site growell insert for the table. It has 36 plant sites, centered 6" each.
After a few experiement grows, have found short, fat, sticky indica's thrive, and fit just right. Flowering at 10-12", makes for a happy 24" finished beautys.
I will post some pics in the next few days, but folks if I can make this work, anyone can.
With 2 tables can veg until desired size, then pick up flood table(very light) and switch to the bloom area.

How do you get the roots into the solution?
I understand that they fit 1.5x1.5 rockwool cubes. Do you put rooted clones in it? Or do you root them in the insert? What do the holes look like?

I filled the area(flood area) with lava rock, and placed growell insert over. I started seedling in the Jiffy7 pellets. When grown to 3-4 " I remove the mesh covering, set gentley into water and swish around a bit. All the dirt/moss rinses straight away. I then slice the rockwoolcube down one side, slide plant into cube, place my finger down the growell hole, move the rocks out of way, and place roots down into rocks, closing the rockwool cube and placing into slot.
I use the starter cubes as they are tappered. The 1 1/2" fit so tightly, no air flow.
After getting bugs, timing out of this, 36 3' plants are attainable, using the growell insert. Getting them all same height is challenge. Some type of screen is next.

So what's the purpose of the holes and the whole unit for that matter if you are simply placing them on the medium. So the 1.5x1.5 rockwool cubes are real tight? isn't that good or does it impede root growth or something. I thought that the roots just hang down onto the table( like a SWC) and you flood every hour or so.
Thanx for the info I was about to order a couple of those.

My first grow trying to use growell insert was a flop. I started seeds in rockwell cubes(1.5") and placed into the table. The roots never came out the bottom of cube. Very root-bound. They grew to 4-5 inches then stalled.
The hole inside the insert is approx 1".
I have used 4' net pots also, but could only fit 16 at maximum.
Using the Jiffy's lets the roots grow out/down abit. I just move the lava rocks out of the way, and gently place plants down into rocks where it gets flooded 3x per day. Any empty holes make sure you plug with a empty cube. No light on them roots.
Real good weight on these plants. 2-3 oz's on the 18 large plants, and .5-1.5 z's on the smaller girls.
They are really fattening up well. More pics to follow.

Hey JohnBudd...

If you flowered them a little shorter next time, say no veg, you might get better light distribution with your setup and stockier buds... I'll be building my own insert soon, but im gonna do 1" net pots 3" apart... hoping to fit 81 little nuglets on my 3x3's. Keep it rockin'

Thanks for the tip, I think you are so right. Actually burned the top of 1 plant pretty good.
Do you think length of veg has over-all bearing on finished product? I worry short veg times=not full potential buds. Please correct me if I am wrong, the 45 day veg time is tooo long? I thought of topping them, but they would spread out too much. 30 day, 20 day veg?

Well it depends...

If those ladies in your table are from seed, then theres no real way to keep them short by veg time, since they'll only flower once mature, meaning they'll grow to maturity then stretch with flower when grown under 12/12. But if you run clones, I would recommend taking them, rooting, then flipping to 12/12 immediately. Experiment with it. If they turn out too short, try vegging 3 days next time, etc. For clones, veg time means little on the finished product, only plant size really. For seeds, you want to veg untill preflowers are visible usually, or wait for alternating nodes for full potency. Topping might be a good idea for you. What wattage light do you have? Ever thought of SCROG?
