Most canna breeders wouldn't be all that concerned with these aspects of their seeds. They are more focused on the traits of the plants being grown. Seed will germinate if put under the right conditions.
I can tell you seeds have phytochrome, a light sensing protein. The protein is able to sense if its dark by changing chemical structure. When red wavelength photons are hitting it, the protein's form changes to a far red form from, and releases its dormancy signal. This protein just starts a series of chain of reactions after its switched off, leading to a change in hormone ratios in the seed, and then germination. Dormancy requirements vary between and within species. I dont think most cannabis varieties have a cold requirement. Many are from tropical regions. I dont think a few weeks of cold would make them unviable. Are you direct sowing outside , or just curious? Last edited by pipeline; 09-16-2006 at 08:37 AM.. |

Just curious pipline, thanks for the info! I saw some talk about seed germination and propagation in another forum, and knew that Bub would probably be a good man to ask.
thanks again!
