help.. plant color getting lighter..
ok, im pretty new at hydro and thought id try my hand at another hydro grow. havnt had a succesful hydro grow yet due to varuous reasons. :(
anyways i started some lifesaver seeds about 2 weeks ago in a DWC setup. One plant is getting big and has some nice roots coming through the pot now, but the color is getting lighter all the time. Its a very light green now, not the usual dark green i get with my soil grows. Is this because its not getting enough nutrients? i hardly have any nutes in because there are a couple plants that sprouted later than the first and are just getting roots coming through. Im using GH nutes and tap water (hard water)... pH is fine. any suggestions? |

Newbie hydro grower myself here so take my advice with a pinch of salt but I reckon it might be lack of nutes as you said.
How much exactly is hardly any nutes? |

potassium defeciency
It's probably potassium. If the whole plant starts to geta lighter, pale color,it's usually potassium. It will start to show necrotic tips and edges on the fan leaves. The older damaged growth will not take up the nutrient, but new growth will not be affected and will be darker green like usual. If the fan leaf is too light it wil;l continue to yellow, but the rest of the plant will regain it's color. This is a common occurance under 1000 watt lights if you don't suppliment potassium. My grow mix has the perfect formula to fix this problem.I use General Hydroponics Flora Nova one-part nutrient mixes, supplimented with original pure blend.
Hope this might be of some help................CC |

diggity
Are you using just the micro? If they are in veg.,you need to use equal parts of micro grow and bloom. They can not grow on just the micro!I used those nutrients for almost 10 years.
After running one crop with their new ONE-PART nutrients,I never looked back. The 3 part system is no where near as complete,I promise. If you just give this new stuff a try you will be amazed!I just mix 1 tablespoon to 7 gallons(it's super-concentrated!)of water! For your nutes: If you will re-mix your reservoir with 1 teaspoon of each of the three nutrients to each gallon and raise your light well above the plants for 2 days they will green right back up!Let me know if you need anything else.Take care.....................CC

wow im a dumbass...guess thats why im a nerb at hydro. lol
i should really read more before i jump into things like this. I will do what you said with mixing the nutrients and probably order some one part tonight.. ive got one problem.. i aquired these nutrients from a friend and all i got was the Micro and the Bloom.. i dont have the Grow part. Thats going to screw me up isnt it?? mixing that much nutrients at this early of a stage wont harm my plants will they? the roots are just starting to grow outside of the rockwool on a couple plants. The light colored plant has one set of 3-fingered leaves and in the process of growing a new set. im just scared of nute burn. lol this is making me learn FAST.. lol |

Thumbs off to Capt!
Capt. is right about the Flora Nova, and it's super cheap! $25 will get you a quart of the grow or bloom. Get one of both, you won't regret it. I think we'll see a lot more go to the Flora Nova in time. It's so easy and you really don't have to supplement with anything, they pack it all in the bottle, even ph buffers. If you want a super easy way to grow hydro, check out the Hempy Bucket, it's all I use. It's even easier to use than the Flora Nova, and nothing beats watching a Hydro Girl do her thing!

your right nothumb
There's nothing like the new one-part formula.I've used so many different nutrients that I can't even count. My problem was always potassium,or not enough in the mixes availible.I usually supplemented with Meta-K from Earth Juice. This new stuff can easily stand alone and grow a beautiful crop from beginning to end with no problems .I use Original Pure Blend for the organic flavor it provides. It is like a syrup when you pour it out of the bottle and dark brown with an awesome organic odor.Towards the end of flower,I discontinue the chemical ferts and slowly work up to nothing but Pure Blend for the last couple of weeks. And a 5-8 day flush.(I use 1000 watt lights that don't require as long of a flush to use up availible nutes.)I also use the pure blend through flowering to go along WITH the Flora Nova. They work exceptionally well together.
Diggity, let me know if you need anything else.Take care fellas....................CC |

A couple of things...
1. That is not great water. You can work with it, but for a newb, it will be tough. If at all possible, find a better water source. Many large grocery stores are beginning to sell RO water for about $.40/gallon. Not sure how big your wattage is, but a full 400watt bloom consumes about 1-1.5 gallons a day, depending on humidity, plant mass, etc. 2. You do not need the Grow formula when using the GH 3 part. Do a net search for "Lucas Formula". I promise you that if you follow the instructions (0 grow, 5 ml Micro, 10ml Bloom for Veg --- 0, 8, 16 for Bloom) using RO water you will get excellent results. With your water, however, you might find yourself burning the plants or getting nute lockups...risky. Lucas Formula was designed for DWC. Use that as a starting point that will give results and start tweaking from there. |

doesnt the lucas formula only work with RO water? i cant dont really wanna go to the store and bring home 20 gallons of RO water..
i think an RO filter is in my future purchases but not right now. i ordered the Flora Nova Grow nutrients.. hopefully it will be here soon. so you think i should mix up the lucas formula until the new stuff gets here? |
