Branchless Flo
Have three Flo from seed 33 days. Two are not branching, at all. The third is branching slowly. I topped all to see if that would get the ball rolling since all they were doing is getting taller. For anyone that has grown DJ's Flo, cull or have patience?

I've posted several on this weird trait - check my gallery and posts - my two phenos barely branch at all. I'm flowering out my mothers now, and I've had success with tying the main stems back, after pinching out many times, and gradually allowing them to bend inwards, then pulling down again, etc. I've formed a sort of 'wine-glass' shape to the bush, and all the stems are the same length. Pics to follow in a few days...
The purple one also drops its shade leaves in a sequential pattern from about four down from the growing tip. Any change to the plant - pinching out, putting into flower, etc. causes the leaves to get brown spots at the tips, which spreads down the leaf. The leaf gradually curls upwards, dries up and drops off. This only happens under HID, with C02 - not outdoors or undre fluoros. I suspect the growth is so rapid, the plant is 'devouring itself. It's not a nute problem and pH is bang on. Possibly a little dry - my RH is around 25-30% The only problem with this is it causes the buds to be a little small - we'll see if this happens again. The green pehone I have shows no sign of this until the last week flower. Weird. |

Thanks for the replies, H and EM. So I'm guessing, as usual, I did the wrong thing topping them.

No, not at all - topping them is the only way to get them to branch. I found tying them back encourages some branching, but the branches go vertically, rather then horizontally. I have about 10 main tops on each plant now, with maybe three branches on each top. Here's some pics of the two phenos before they went under the big lights:
And by the way - don't cull them! Flo is one of the best strains I have ever smoked...

Thanks EM for the pics and the info.. After seeing Hansel's 'Column 'O' Bud', I thought topping doomed me to 12" of cola only. Sounds like i'm just in for a long veg. because at the nodes, with the aid of a magnifying glass, there are tiny flecks of green. They're going to take awhile. Sounds like it will be worth it in the end. So, patience it is!

Heh - that's actually heirloom Blueberry Sativa on the cover, believe it or not. The Flo is in the color plates in the middle. I found a High Times feature with both pics in it - they're by Andre Grossman, and are gorgeous:
https://www.hightimes.com/ht/grow/con...?bid=119&aid=3 I was wigged out when i saw it - until my purple one did pretty much the same. The shade leaves on my Flo are all starting to roll up again - on 15 days flower. I'll post pics soon - have to go away for a few days, but when I get back. |

Just thought I'd give an update. Sorry that I don't have a camera for pic's. 11 days after being topped, the two most vigorous growers (of course) are showing male pre-flowers, and the third has pistils at the top node. The female has started branching. The two shoots out of the top are all of 1/2-3/4" tall and the lower nodes have gone from specs of light green under a maginifying glass to barely discernable leaves. I know I vowed patience, but at this rate of growth with only one female, I figure on 4-6 months of vegging.
Any thoughts? She is 12'' tall in a 1.5 gal. pot. I've given her enough N, I think, because the tips of the leaves just starting to claw a bit. Re-pot to the 5 gallon pot maybe? |
