Veg lighting? 315CMH vs 400watt single bulb vs 150hps + 2x 100MH
I am building a veg space to feed my 4x4 perpetual. I am working with about 2’ x 3’ by up to 7’ high. I want to be able to veg in there and drop into the 1000watt HPS room without having to veg under the big light. I have strains that vary in flower time from 7.5 weeks all the way out to about 13 weeks. My plan is to create a flow of about two plants a month going from veg to flower and keep things being harvested on a bi-weekly basis. I am struggling with whether to use the remote ballast lights I built a couple years back (1x 150HPS and 2 100MH), buy a new 315 CMH, or pick up a new 400 watt digital setup. I would love some input as I am pretty much stuck on how to move forward on this one.

Adding a pair of CB3590s, because LEDs are the future.
But I don’t think I can add them to the poll... |

I'd go all led for veg, with a pair of 3500K and a pair of 5000K, run at 50-90w each you will easily cover your area. Check Vero 29 gen7, the 69V model is the best in my opinion, get a couple of hlg185h-c1400 and a pair of sunglasses
Cheers

The garden system here is a five plant perpetual with a harvest every two weeks on average.
A seedling and clone table, 4' x 2', uses a 400w CMH and a pair of 150w LED side lights, one one each end. This is good to about 10" or so. The veg table, 4' x 6', uses a pair of 300w LEDs overhead and 150w LED side light on each end. This is good to about 30" The bud room is 9' x 7' with a mix of CMH and three brands of LED, not all plants appreciate the same mix of light. |

Tbg, I'm using Arctic alpine 64plus, fans powered with adjustable uni power adapter. 6 or 9 volts, depending on cob power.
Cheers

I vote for the HPS/MH combo bulbs... mostly because you'll be flowering in a constant HPS 12/12 perp flower room.
It seems to me that completely switching the light source so suddenly could have a negative effect. I've seen plenty of results and the best product always was usually grown under the same lighting conditions the whole grow. With more little bulbs you have a lot of control, more redundancy, and much better spread. More energy efficient as you gradually increase the amount of bulbs/ballasts you add. Just using a 400 and raising and lowering isn't the best but it does work, but your wasting energy you don't have too. If its digital and you are dimming, your just wrecking your MH\HPS bulbs and the lumens decrease way faster than a 100W that is always at 100% You could start them under a 100MH for a bit, Add another 100MH when they get a little bit bigger, then ramp it up with the 150HPS for the last week or so of veg. Now the cool part: as soon as you toss them into the flower room, you could hang one of the 100MHs in there too, right over them for the next week that you don't need it for veg. You can even position it so it blocks some of the 1000 HPS rays from blasting them to soon.. I still like T-5s the best though! |

One 315w 3100K CMH open fixture is all you need and is the perfect amount of light for a 3 x 2ft space. Keep it simple, and in this case it makes sense because even the best LED cobs or strip lights will not be significantly better.

315W 4200K CMH light is your first choice. SPD is here: https://www.facebook.com/SunPlix/pho...type=3&theater

The combination of lights you already have would do the job. OTOH, if you're willing to spend then a 315 would be the hot setup. They are excellent, the best HID tech money can buy. Two are the rough equivalent of a conventional 1000w lamp. Maybe not quite, but it's close. The price/performance ratio is much better than quality LED's. You'll never regret it.
