New California declares "independence" from rest of state
SACRAMENTO — With the reading of their own version of a Declaration of Independence, founders of the state of New California took the first steps to what they hope will eventually lead to statehood. CBS Sacramento reports they don't want to leave the United States, just California.
"Well, it's been ungovernable for a long time. High taxes, education, you name it, and we're rated around 48th or 50th from a business climate and standpoint in California," said founder Robert Paul Preston. The state of New California would incorporate most of the state's rural counties, leaving the urban coastal counties to the current state of California. "There's something wrong when you have a rural county such as this one, and you go down to Orange County which is mostly urban, and it has the same set of problems, and it happens because of how the state is being governed and taxed," Preston said. New California is now grown to 21 counties following a special meeting January 9, 2018. The addition on Santa Cruz, Orange, San Joaquin and Imperial Counties have set the state for more counties to join the New California Movement. https://newcaliforniastate.com/new-california-news How will this affect new california cannabis laws?

Is this like a re-imagining of the "State of Jefferson"? Shit makes me laugh. Don't they know the whole of California is going to be annexed by the Pacific ocean soon enough anyways?

I would love to see the people from the country finally have their own say instead of the current nasty political climate out there.

I applaud their concern for electricity costs in California, but that's not the biggest problem for rural towns in the state. Small towns in Cali need to support commercial development and manufacturing, and quit supporting big agriculture. Big agriculture = good money for very few and shitty jobs for everyone else. The cost of living in rural California has gone through the roof, and traditional industries in those areas, such as farming, barely support the cost of living.
The amount of people who commute to Silicon Valley because of crappy job markets in rural areas is staggering!! This proposed plan to make rural areas more "business friendly" (most likely tax cuts for business owners, and lower minimum wage) will make things even worse in my opinion. The only people who will be able to make it in rural areas will be the wealthy, and migrant workers who can fit 2 times more people in a house than Americans. |

The liberals are not going to let their free lunch get away. They would have to pay for their insane policies all by themselves. The rural counties are going to have to fight to succeed.
