Pruning mother plants for clones

Right as previously stated... new to keeping mothers!
I just used to use a perpetual cloning cycle where I took clones from vegging plants just before the flip.

Heard from my late friend "The Colonel" that he used to trim his mothers into a cup/chalice shape from the top to produce more clonable shoots.

Anybody have any experience with this?
I want to be able to take maximum no of sizable shoots..

Any suggestions or info?
