Rotovap Vacuum Pump recommendations

Hi Everyone, we are new to the community, so thanks in advance for all the great info being shared.

I was looking for some feedback on some vacuum pumps and also some associated settings being used by online community here. We do extraction (Co2) and had been outsourcing our winterization. We purchased some of our own equipment to take that in house.

We have a Buchi R-300 Rotovap with an I-300 controller interface, unfortunately we were guided somewhat wrong on the vacuum pump, come to find out it seem like it is no where near enough for what we need, max's out at about 150 mbar. I have seen some posts about starting at about 80 and going down from there. We are using 190 or 200 proof ethanol as our solvent.

I wish we could afford to buy a V-300 as it would be plug and play into our R-300, but we don't have the $4-5K for that right now. I have seen Buchi V-512's which is a V-500 pump and a V-850 vacuum controller in a price range we think we can afford. The V-500 pump is capable of <10 mbar. That appears to be in the range we have to ultimately get to.

So may ask of the general community is if there are opinions on a vacuum/controller like this (I know it's older) and some thoughts on a general process to start and and ultimately complete with. Guidance in pressure, temp and rotational speeds would be of tremendous help in helping shorten the learning curve!

Thanks!
