Hi,
I researched a bit and so far I did come to the following configuration:

2 x 600 Watts in an area of 280cm x 120cm (~3.40sqm). I would use an AdjustAWing reflector for each bulb to be able to light an area of 140cm x 120cm instead of the usual 120 x 120 (4x4 feet). Did read about that reflector type in a case study in one of Cervantes books.

I decided to do ebb and flow, as it is really quick to setup und not high maintenance. It was a bit problematic to find a table in the size 280cm x 120cm. I found a table in the size 240cm x 122cm and a smaller one 61cm x 122cm which together would be 300cm x 244cm.

I plan to do a sea of green with minimum 60 clones in rockwool and aim to yield about min 2 lbs after veg 1 to 2 weeks and flowering of approx 2 months.

What do you think of the setup?

I also have two specific questions:
- The flood trays have a height of 15 cm. Will that be enough?
- I will need to insulate the room, because the winter here is a bit rough. For insulation you can use rockwool. It is available in big rolls. Can I use my rockwool for growing, also from these rockwool rolls, which are for insulation?

You wouldn't use Kingspan type rockwool designed for construction application in Horticulture. There's plenty of threads covering insulation & growroom construction. I prefer underfloor heating.


If the tray will drain & fill without problems with the cubes or coir baskets under the surface level of the lava rocks you should find that suitable..

I'm doing SOG, I plant @ various densitys with varoius gardens. 13+ is good numbers for some types, you can go as high as 9 plants per square foot but that would require healthy clones with no shock flipped immediately with no nurse time on graded clones.. I'm using 1.6ltr Square to Round pots of coir & hand feeding upto 5 times a day with the plants well rooted into the pots. When cramming them in & with a bit of veg time & bending it's really productive if you have the cuttings...

I got pissed about the lack of ebb/flow trays in the uk 1990
I went to a vac forming co the restriction in depth is about stretching the plastic over a mold deeper that 15/16cm
I got a wood mould made
And 96 trays made.

The deepest ive found on the market since are active aqua

Why, can't I insulate my room walls with rock wool? Will keep the heating in my room.

Sorry, I am not sure, if I understand what you mean is the proper flooding height?

I am in europe. Somehow there is a bit less diversity of these products.

Seems like the active auqa, are mostly around 7". Which is probably almost the same like 15cm.

I am not sure, about that bucket stuff. Seems like it will be a hassle to do 60 of them for sea of green.

Ok with tray depth they dont tell the truth i found. ive had to question companys and get them to measure exactly.
I used pots in my trays 36 under 1000w i have had 54 pots under 1000 w

Yes Ebb/flow buckets probably not ideal for sea of green
just i got over 1g per watt with 12 buckets 1 plant a bucket in hydroton

I researched a bit more and now I think it makes more sense to use two ebb and flow table each 4x6. And over each table I put a 600watt with an adjustawing reflector.

Lets see what tables in 4x6 I can find here in europe!

1 4x6 is 24 sq feet 600w divided by 24 is only 25 watts per square ft
you need at least 40 watts per square ft
I look for 50w per square foot which is 1 x 600 w per 1 metre square

As for depth i get 1 kg from 12 ebb/flow pots under 1000w in 4ft x 4ft area because they each have 12 ltrs hydroton root space 144 ltrs total!

work out root area in a 150 mm deep tray which cant be flooded right to the top which isnt actually 150 mm deep because theye measuring to the bottom of drain channels not the flats that pots stand on.A

So basically you say my setup is shitty??? :-D :-D

I had a look in two books of cervantes and on the website of the adjustAWings manufacturers and it seems like that they use less watts on bigger areas. In the forums it seems like most people use 1000W lamps in smaller areas...

I dont know who is right?

Read up on PAR watts
And inverse square law for light intensity over area .
