Color Indicating Silica Gels
Anyone have experience with color indicating silica gels?
I know the blue comes from toxic cobalts, but the orange/green variant is supposed to be safer. https://www.agmcontainer.com/media/t...20013-msds.pdf the msds seems relatively benign. I thought this shit was so cool I haven't even thought to wonder how it would change color bands in a column.....

"No component of this product present at levels greater than or equal to 0.1% is identified as a
carcinogen or potential carcinogen" I'm told it is methyl-violet responsible for the color. I imagine silicic acid and phenolphthalein are used in its synthesis. But how much is ACTUALLY on the surface of the beads or leeches out. I imagine the color change ability would leech out if anything were to leave the silica. Oh im sure we could get a lab to test for their presence
