https://www.aol.co.uk/cars/2016/03/0...uction-record/ Don't believe the crap about rare because its known in capri circles that a 2.8 injection special is exactly the same car as that "280" apart from the crap "Brooklands" green paint. Its well known 280s were thrown together with the very last of the parts, even panels that had been rejected earlier in production - they used the trash left over from 2.8 injection special production to make the 280s. They had run out of paint so nowhere that didn't show was painted so they rotted like pears. They were known to be rusty BEFORE leaving the factory, unpainted under the interior. A genuinely mint 2.8 injection special in Crystal blue or Storm grey a year or 6 months older would fetch MORE. If you find a mint, solid EVERYWHERE 280, its almost certainly been re-shelled with a injection specials shell. Last edited by Spaventa; 10-29-2017 at 01:22 AM.. |

Old Fords?
For nostalgic reasons, my favorite was my 1964 Ford F-100, short-bed, step-side, white in color, and brought to Alaska from Texas in the early 80s by another. Indian blanket interior door panels, a rainbow-colored mandala rear window decal, and the classic "Easy Rider rifle rack." 223 straight-six, three-speed on the column, a transmission you could crawl under the truck, puff your chest out after backing off the bolts and dropping the drive line, and wiggle the thing off the splined out-put on your chest with no serious discomfort. And enough room in the engine compartment to spread out and relax when reaching the very accessible parts and pieces. Used to joke there was enough room to put a recliner in there when working on it. 18 mpg loaded or empty, but for slightly more when doing 90 mph down-hill into Albuquerque one summer, and crossing Saskatchewan with a serious tail-wind on another trip. Her name was Donna Marie, named after an old girl-friend. They shared some similar behavioral traits. Run reliably right up until you needed them the most, and then...... Actually, in contrast, the truck was more reliable than she was. Oil bath air cleaner was the weak link after the motor was rebuilt. That, and leaving the 140 weight gear lube I put in there for a trip down to the Mojave, and neglected to take out when returning to the Arctic. Trying to pull-start it at -53 f., we snapped a heavy-duty tow strap. Ooops. 140 weight gear lube practically turns to rock candy at -50. Lessons of lethargy and procrastination learned the hard but meaningful way. Then there was a brief relationship with a 1953 Chevy 3600 3/4-ton pick-up we drove north after grad school, but that's another less endearing story. |

I like the ten or so year old crown vic police interceptors. you look like a cop so people generally avoid you on the road. Also, the engine can sustain 100 mph for a good while, so...

They say Ford drivers don't go to hell, cause they've already experienced it here on earth. I dono tho.. My mom has a Ford, seemed like a decent ride, had it on loan for a couple of days.
