Smoking and dreaming

Hey guys and gals,

I stopped smoking marijuana about 25 days ago. I had to stop because of a drug test, and i figured why not? Tolerance breaker.

I really can't sleep that well, at all. I was so used to being completely wrecked, and just crashing. Well when i tried to sleep, it was like i was completely awake, and it was impossible. It got better, slowly, and with the help of beer and other alcoholic beverages, its somewhat better. I do sleep, but its not as heavy, and not as long.

Anyway, the reason i started this whole post, is because i noticed something very odd. When i went to bed completely stoned, or coming down, it was more like a coma than anything. I didnt toss and turn, i didnt get up at random hours, and most of all, i didnt dream. No dreams, no nightmares, nothing.

But ever since i've been clean, i've had vivid dreams almost every night. And i never really noticed the fact that i didnt dream before, until all these random crazy dreams started popping up. I find it extremely odd, and was wondering if anyone else had this same 'problem'?

Comments are definatly appreciated, i'd like to solve this little mystery

It was just the short term memory loss that kept you from remembering your dreams

I actually have the opposite story...was clean for 6 months and never remembered any dreams...started smoking again a while back and voila - I'm remembering the dreams again...really don't have any idea why either.

no im with u handofdoom, when i smoke i never dream. people say its that you dont remember the dreams, but i read its actually that u dont dream, something to do with a side effect THC has on your brain.

i do find however that alcohol does the opposite and i have really vivid "in your face" dreams so maybe thats what u are experiencing now.

Peace

alcohol and spicy food apparently make you have sex dreams, so i've heard.. but its nothing like that. Its just i'm dreaming again, and its weird. To be honest, i kinda liked it better when i DIDN'T dream ... i don't really know how to explain my reasoning. Maybe i like the fact that when i'm conscious, i am in control of my thoughts, and when i'm asleep and dreaming, i have no control whatsoever. So when i was smoking, i was in control of my thoughts at all times.

Thanks for your replies, if anyone else has anything to say, let's hear it, this is very intriguing!

Its pretty common for tokers to just 'blink out' their dreams. The dreams still happen and all but your ability to recall them is impaired. It happens to me every time I curb my intake.

The only strain I found that doesnt impair the recall ability and produces some really whacked nightime dreams is C99.

wow that's weird, i wonder if there are certain strains that are good for dreaming. I find it odd that marijuana would suppress dreams, especially since it's considered a mild hallucinogen.

I have the same real-dreams when i stop smoking, along with some cold sweats.
Seems lots of other friends who quit when i did had the same weird dreams.
Peace
