I recently made an order with Breeders Retail, so I thought I would share my experience. I ordered during the summer promo and, while I'm grateful to have the opportunity to grow these genetics, I have to say that my experience was sort of meh.

I exchanged a series of emails with BR ahead of my order and received relatively prompt responses to most of my questions. I paid for the order via BTC, which was especially convenient as I live outside the US in an unfriendly country and was able to pay for and receive the seeds during a visit home to the US.

But the rest of the experience failed to meet my expectations, especially in comparison to separate orders I made with US seedbanks including OES and GLG. I'm aware that most of my complaints will seem nitpicky, but where OES and GLG went well beyond what I expected BR didn't even adhere to their advertised promos.

First off, I felt that the BTC exchange rate quoted by BR was tilted in their favor, especially as this was before the recent surge in BTC. But given the difference was less than $25, I let it slide despite also paying $20 for postage and handling.

Then I ordered Sam's Ancestral Skunk and asked whether the 100-seed packs fell under the 50% increase under the Cultivator's Choice promo in place at the time. I was told that they did. Given the 20%-25% germination rates, an extra 50 seeds matters more than in most cases. I received a grand total of 90 seeds in my pack and no additional seeds under the promo.

I have a ton of Thunk freebies from years of Seedbay and Bou orders, so I also asked for either an alternative freebie or, in the case that none were available, that the freebie be passed along to another customer. I communicated to BR that I don't have time/space for such long-flowering plants, not to mention my ample supply. But I still received Thunk freebies.

I also purchased two packs of Verdant Green seeds to receive his NLxDeep Chunk freebie, which I received. I also ordered a few other packs that pushed my order beyond $300, but received just the Thunk and a 10-pack of Chimera's Purple X as freebies.

Now, I don't know what constitutes a large order these days and I'm sure many of you spend a lot more than I did, but that seemed kind of chintzy compared with what I received in my other orders this trip home. Just to be clear, I look forward to finding out what freebies I've received with an order with more anticipation than Christmas morning!

Once again, I realize these are fairly small issues and many of you would not give them a second thought. But it's a competitive marketplace and the whole experience left me wanting. I look forward to growing out these special genetics, but I doubt I'll be a returning Breeder's Retail customer.

Those Purple X have potential, I was disappointed with them at first because all of them failed miserably in my room against spidermites but even the specimens I harvested early were actually quite strong, I am re-running a couple of them.

I think freebies should not matter, I just ordered from seedsman and again I am getting their fem blueberry freebies that I already got as a freebies on my previous order and I will probably never grow them. Whatever. As long as I get what I paid for.

The ancestral skunk were a waste of time for me but they were from a different batch and none of them germinated, and also were freebies.

The Thunk is a bitch, I have one at day 95 ... I think of it more as a breeding tool, grow them out, find a good male and cross it with your favorite female and see what you got. I probably will not attempt to grow it indoor again. Though the one I have right now, kept indoor for 85 days and been outside for over a week, is finally starting to grow beautiful resin heads that are almost big enough to enjoy with the naked eye.

I also used a male Thunk on my Les Fleurs Bleues and my Memory Loss, I have one Memory Loss X Thunk waiting to be sexed right now...

Bottom line is when I order seeds, I like to trust that I get what I pay for, the rest is bonus and not necessary, as long as I get the genetics I paid for. I got what I paid for when I ordered from Breeder Retail and then some.

Maybe you will change your mind on those Thunk once you smoke them!

If you were supposed to get 150 ancestral skunk seeds and you got 90 i would send them an email, They will make it right. Sounds like you got the freebees you were promised, i wouldnt expect anything else.

Sorry you had some issues but I've had nothing but stellar communication and business practices with BR. Hope you get any of your issues cleared up. I have no reservations ordering from them.

Kobi93, You are the problem, not Breeders Retail!

Other than the Ancestral Skunk being short, you got what you ordered. Your should have privately contacted Breeders Retail concerning your issue instead of acting like a child & throwing a fit in front of the crowd.

I appreciate the courteous and professional response, but I'm home now and, for security reasons, am unable to take you up on the offer. But just based on your reaction I'm certainly more likely to give BR a second chance in the future should I see something too tempting to pass up. Thanks again!

Thanks for your comment! There are a couple of posts around detailing the background of the Purple X freebie, but you're the first to provide information on the results. I look forward to seeing how they turn out for me now!

The opportunity to try the Ancestral Skunk was what made me first consider placing an order with BR. Despite the issues with the first batch and the well-stated germination troubles with these old seeds, the summer promo was the deciding factor in moving forward with the order.

While I'm slightly disappointed with the results, I'll work with what I have and move forward.

I've also used Thunk as a breeding tool and have made a couple of crosses that I still like to run every now and then today, with MLI x Thunk I think my favorite.

And I agree freebies are just icing on the cake, but it was the series of small issues that, when combined, left me a little disappointed with the whole process. We all have our own individual take on things.

The issue with freebies was just one of a series of things that dampened my enthusiasm for my transaction. But, as I said in my original post, I'm grateful and excited to work with the Ancestral Skunk.

As far as Thunk, I've smoked quite a bit of it since I started ordering seeds from the Bou and Bay. It's more a question of space and time now.
