I use rockwool crouton and perlite. Add the hard water and i do get a natural upswing in my containers. I feed a standard mix thats 5.5 everyday and it works quite well. Hydro can be pretty flexible depends on what you are doing |

Always remember, tap water hydro advice only works for everyone using the same tap water, during the same time of year. (soil too)
Use reverse osmosis water and you will get the same results copying any other hydro grower who also uses R/O (all things considered). Side bonuses are extremely predictable pH and the ability to grow extremely clean cannabis.

RO water does not grow cleaner dope unless your water is nasty as fuck lol. Its not a issue out my way but i know for some people that statement is no joke... I find RO easier to adjust ph also takes way less ph shit, however i find tap water to be more stable once the ph swings (typically up .2 or .3) though it varies wildly with food. Because i use a substrate based hydro (perlite + rockwool) i can use tap with no issue. Folks in my town use tap in their water based hydro systems but i myself would get a filter if i used a water system instead of what i do |

I use tap water as its actually good water
where I am, being very soft containing low amounts of tds. Ive been using enzymes in my DWC as ive always used it in my feeding schedule. Does anyone else here use enzymes or do you think its more for soil. How long do you folks flush in hydro for. I usually flush for at least 2 weeks in soil but ideally do so for three weeks, getting my plants to properly fade. Have you any tips on flushing hydro and at what PH is best for the water for flushing with. My plants now are drinking around 10 to 13 litres every 2 days and I wish id used bigger buckets as roots are huge and had a tank that I was topping up as its not easy lifting the lids with big plants and a huge root mass. The roots in the GSC buckets are like nothing ive seen with some being thick and stiff like rope. They've actually smashed through the net pots splitting them a bit. Im still a little behind with some of the hydro but all are blooming well with the trichomes and terpenes being developed plenty. Peace Namaste |

When growing extreme quality cannabis, or duplicating hydro results, R/O levels the playing field.
Yes, there are some water supplies which are as clean as R/O. They are the exception and not the rule. Some tap water contains only dissolved elements cannabis can use as food. Again, this is the exception and not the rule. The unfortunate part about cannabis is its a hyper/dynamic accumulator flower and not a fruit or vegetable. This means any non-food or excessive elements available will decrease quality in ways which cannot be flushed/faded out. The absorption of elements, through other channels than passive ionic uptake, and its ability to directly bind elements to new growth unconverted, makes a huge difference where quality is concerned. A lot of people have difficulty telling the difference between 2% and whole milk, or butter and margarine. For these growers/tokers, 'decent' cannabis is the bomb. Those who have gained awareness, of what truly clean cannabis is like, are those who prefer R/O grown and faded cannabis. Those who prefer exactly predictable pH changes, or are looking for duplicateable results (which includes newbies), have the easiest learning curve with R/O and advice from other R/O growers. The other nice thing is not having to re-learn or adjust your methods when you move to a new water supply. Lots of examples of folks who've had that issue. This is why I always recommend R/O water, regardless of grow method.

Flushing hydro, for me, is the last 5 days switched out with pure R/O, no pH adjustment. It's the only rez dump/refill I make during flower. Prior to this I fade, which consists of nute strength management to keep transpiration levels high, from the time max growth stops until just before harvest.
My 1K HPS runs are still dropping rez levels by at least 2 gallons a day. Max usage, at peak of flower, is around 5 gallons of top off water a day. Straight R/O, non-adjusted for pH, to maintain the proper pH swing. Mmmm, Mmmmm Good.

Starting well water is 200! But its sulphur and calcium so the plants like it. Actually I think they love it.
I flush for 14 days at TDS 400 pH 5.8. I keep cal mag in there. It dosent accumulate like Phosphorus. And Contributes significantly to yields. Last edited by mushroombrew; 07-16-2017 at 03:15 AM.. Reason: typo |

I'm still a bit surprised Hydro is behind soil. What is your soil mix?

This thread has a 1 star rating lol. Its not that bad bht it could use some pics or progress report from the OP. LOL at soil out doing hydro. Only one way that happens... human error |
