I have a Purple strain of unknown genetics that starts purpling up at 3 weeks. Sometimes at 2.5 weeks into the flowering cycle. The Calyx's start to purple up within days of starting to form.

Peace,

They can, but usually start mid to late cycle like 40 AMPS said. It's all in the genes.

Peace,

Here's an old pic of the original Mountain Jam. Maybe the best $100 seed purchase I've made.
EDIT and this mostly went purple no matter what temperature.

Sorry for the lack of updates folks...I have all but 2 of the purple jack strains in flower currently with the hope that by weeks end the remaining two will go in. I initially kept the plants on the shorter side due to crowding and the crazy summer heat in my garden but the two Purple Kush x Jack decided they where gonna stretch anyhow to reach the lights. By next week I'll be able to post some pics....

Thanks for the post of the old Mountain Jam!!! I remember seeing a a small wright up and pic in High Times, after running Frostbite since 2001 i grabed a pack of MJ....mine was 90$cad at Crosstown traffic in ottawa ont. I had 2 phenotypes, a light green soulshine leaner and the 1 very close to the pic posted here. My "purple" one wqas a bit more red the that one, but as for flower structure pretty well identical!! It got re-named by a group of smokers they called her "The Delicious"! cause it was!! Loud berry/red grapefruit acridness!!! The Soulshine leaner was a electric "SPG" sourness....but everyone wanted the purple which yielded less for me, so it was a pain in the ass really!!!lol....I really liked the soulshine one so that was ok. A professional photographer loved it sooo much offered to shoot my work for free just vso he could use the pics, he took photos of live plants in the room and glamour shoots for the wet flowers right befor hand so some of the larger nasty leaves were removed providing better "bud Shots:!! also he returned to shoot the fully dried flowers right before cure..he had lots of finnished product shots. Then in 2007 we were raided and then H-Ied 6months after, so all of our work was lost and taked, i had 1 8x10 of the best shot but someone spilled coffee on it!! So Thank you very much for posting this AWESOME variety from Chimera, and bringing back LOTS of memories!!!

Thanks for the rep everyone.

@AndrewNLD, I am glad you liked the pic and thanks for the great stories. The mountain jam in the pic was the first I grew and maybe the one I liked the most, however they were all great. 5 males and 5 females. Most had a chunkier, WLD look.

I made quite a few f2's and grew many out. Some of them were better than the originals! One was bright pink and had this amazing relaxing effect. I still should have a heap of them around and one day I will grow it again. Fantastic strain that I kept coming back to. I am just more interested in NLD type plants (sativas) at the moment.

If I find any other pics worth posting I will put them here.

GSC s1 #1 update

this is one of the cookie girls I have in flower and a purple candidate. Clearly, the purple has failed to visit the garden in the heat of the summer but on some of the plants you can see the darker pigment on the leaves could produce purple in cooler temps. This particular plant looks less "cookie" than her sister to me but it is still early and this plant is about two weeks behind in flower than the other gal.

GSC s1 #2 update

This is the second cookie gal and is a bit further along in flower. The leaves are a bit darker on this one and I have no doubt she will purple in cooler temps. The flower set is smaller than on the sister but she also has a touch more color and open structure. The photos are terrible since my secret lair is dim and my phone camera auto fills with flash; washing out the bud definition. Some are better than others and you can see the pretty flowers..
