What makes RO water get iridescent film on surface?
That is basically my question. I stockpile RO water for RDWC or coco, and after sitting in bucket for 4 days or more, gets iridescent film. Is it bad or makes water unusable? Should a couple of drops of bleach per gallon be added?

the only thing it could be is something in the plastic itself if the bucket is new or still some residual something from whatever the bucket was used for originally. everyone should scrub new plastic with a detergent and a stiff brush. |

the rainbow effect is usually from oils in water...
Are you using any scented oil plugins or fabric softeners in the air where you're keeping the bucket? They'll condense on the surface of the water. Terpentine, gasoline and other volatile oils will do the same thing... |

I do have one of those plugin air freshners in adjacent room. Also I use BTI mosquito dunks in water for coco plants. Wonder if that could cause it.

I use a UV light submersible pump for my RO tank. It will kill any bacteria in there.

Cannabis is very good at absorbing those chemicals/oils, just like lung tissue. Probably responsible for part of the issue...
