Week 3 Veg (first topping)
So I topped BB2 on Thursday, gave BB1 a few more days, and topped her Sunday afternoon. This week I also began adding small amounts of Epsom salt and molasses to their water. They really seemed to react nicely.
Both: BB1: I ended up topping her before taking a picture, so excuse my hand. There are definitely differences between these two. This one has very tight spacing between the nodes, is shorter and less vigorous of a grower. After topping her I really noticed how close the node below the topped one was and I am now contemplating using LST to keep those four shoots at same height and not top again. BB2: She has some energy! From seed she took off growing vigorously. Really like her leaf structure. The main stalk added some girth this week alleviating my concern about adding more soil around the base. I'm very impressed with how well she handled the stress of topping. I noticed growth less than 24 hours post. By Sunday the shoots had added some height and I should be able to bend them down a bit next week. Originally I had planned on topping each twice before switching to flower but I may use LST from here on out, get a shape I want and switch. I'm entertaining this idea due to how close the node are... Seems LST may be the better choice but I'll see as they grow. This is the first grow where I've used a MH bulb during veg and whether it's the strain, or the light, these two blueberries and the one not Seedsman attain I have going too, have stayed shorter than the plants vegged under my HPS bulb. Still learning, still growing! Thanks for stopping by! P.P. |

Solid looking plants. Looks like they're happy in their new pots

Little Update
BB1 5 days after topping.
I used some garden ties to pull the shoots apart to get more light. It looks like I can get 4 colas using LST. BB2 7 days after topping. She has rebounded nicely from the cut. Looking like I will be able to get a few nice shoots going. More in a few days. P.P. |

Week 4 veg
It has been a week since they were topped. The difference in the two is interesting and I am very interested in seeing how each one grows out. After giving them plain, ph'ed water all week, I introduced small amount of nutrients today. Only one quarter of the recommended dose as I believe my soil is beginning to use up its nutrients. I will be keeping a close eye on their response.
BB1 Nice bushy plant so I used LST to bend the four shoots away from each other and moved or removed fan leaves blocking the light. I'm excited to see how those four shoots take off. It seems reasonable, in my inexperienced mind, that they can be manipulated into 4 even colas. BB2 This one grows very fast and never really slowed down too much after topping. A little LST and moving or removal of fan leaves was required to give the newer shoots more light. I like the look of six healthy young shoots. I hope I can keep her healthy and happy because I feel like she has A LOT of potential. I am thinking of allowing for another two weeks of veg before switching lights but I will let height be my overall deciding factor. The next time I give them nutrients I will increase the dosage to one third of the recommended. Hopefully back in a week with nothing but good news. P.P. |

I really like the way you've got that plant tied down. Really excellent canopy development.

Thanks, all. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I don't screw them up! So far, things are going very smoothly for my first time topping. Again, thanks for the kind words.
