That too, is not how the current system works. HC doesn't check police records to see if people were busted under previous programs, or to see if they have criminal records for past drug offenses. Only designated growers have to get police background checks, not personal production growers, and even then it's the prospective DG that needs to go to the police in their local area to get a record check - never do HC themselves contact the police to inquire about program participants for personal or designated producers. Doctor's are the gatekeepers that determine who gets to be in the program, and how much they can grow & possess. Te doctor can sign for any Canadian to grow their own despite past criminal infractions- it would be unconstitutional to allow one individual the right to grow their own meds and without that same right from another, and HC couldn't stop anyone from growing even if they wanted to, as long as a doctor had given the approval. While I agree with you that only those registered with HC are truly covered and could force the cops to simply walk away, I think in principle those that grow as soon as they get the doctor's signature are also without worry from prosecution in the courts.

I am hearing the folks on the HC hotline are saying 4 months rolleyes: which is totally ridiculous because once again, Canadians have to choose between their health and breaking the law, which has already been ruled by the courts as a violation of your rights and freedoms- you can't be asked to choose between your life and liberty of the person.
HC needs to hire some staff and get this problem dealt with, 4 months is inexcusable and totally unnecessary.

104 days
Received by HC in Early December I'm being told its 4 months minimum at this point... Grow applications are dated to the original signing date.. So you lose 4 months of the script... You can still face serious police threat if you choose to grow before your paperwork arrives...it may get tossed out in court...but you'll still suffer the joys of a raid....and all the horrors that come with same... Plus....it won't help your future attempts to get licences under the ACMPR. Once you're approved...3-5 business days till paperwork arrives... It's a terrible system.... Goodluck to everybody GT

Most growers I know who are waiting run a smaller mother and Veg garden UNTILL they are approved...then flip the big lights on!
Sad state of affairs! I could purchase a gun...in a week! But to grow a plant....4 months!
