learner grower question/mistake

Hi guys, question, didn't really pay to much attention to details on my first 2 grows, (didn't really know what was important to remember)
what happens on the 12/12 switch, apart from the start of bud making and stretch?
i.e does the plant make more nodes,
Just asking because I didn't really grow my plants out proper (3-4 weeks), and started flowering them thinking they will grow more nodes along the tops of the plants, now im a bit worried that I will have tons of little golf ball buds and nothing much bigger then that

Some stuff stretches more than others. Theres lots of different things happen at 12/12 but the biggest is the stretch then flowering.

Sativas will stretch alot some indicas dont at all and rely on vegging.

but what about nodes, does it produce more, most tips/tops i've got only have 2-3 nodes, so finger length buds in the future, I was trying to figure out if during the stretch, more nodes will be produced, making those finger length colas into well, two finger length colas?

Wink

Not having pictures makes it tougher.

The top of my plants look about the same as the rest of the plant while in veg. The top does not have more nodes than the branches. When the flowering starts the main cola stretches and the buds fill in the area by getting longer and fatter while sticking tight to the stem.
Depending on strain this cola can get quite long from just a few nodes. Some plants do not get the long cola and the bud on top is just like the other buds as far as length and girth goes.

It will grow a little more node wise and You'll see more lateral nodes forming if that's what you're asking. But node growth generally starts to slow down right when you flip 12/12 and even more so week 2-3 of flower while the plant focuses on calyxs and pistils.

Like Yeti said the stretch depends on the strain your one finger size bud could be one and a half fingers, two fingers, three fingers, any type of finger size but you won't really know unless you grew the strain before if it'll be a plant that has 0.5x-3x stretch

Its hard to speak about what they do in general because all varieties behave differently. Ive seen sativas stretch up to 2000% or 20× those plants behave very differently than a pure indica that might not stretch at all and just bud at the sites its already grown i veg

If you haven't topped the plant and you are not tying it down to some type of net then each plant will have basically a single large cola. Depends on strain as to how bushy the lower branches will develop.
