Cultivator's Choice Info - Breeders Retail

I wanted to quickly give some info on the Cultivator's Choice Stock listed at Breeder's Retail, as there seems to be some questions relating to these varieties and their pedigree.

Some may have noticed that certain offerings from the Cultivator's Choice label have also been seen in other commercial seed catalogues over the years.

For example; the Sleestack x Skunk #1 you may have seen listed in DNA's catalogue, and also at other seed vendors. This is because the Cultivator's Choice team were contracted to produce seed in bulk for some Dutch seed banks. Contract reproduction of seed is the norm for many Dutch seed banks as they sell much more seed than they could possibly produce themselves. In some cases, popular Dutch seed houses don't even produce seeds of their own varieties, and are simply resellers of seeds hey purchase.

Breeder's Retail have worked out an exclusive arrangement with Sam where we have the right to use the original producer's brand and to market the last of some of these lines to the public. In this way, there's no confusion that these seeds are in fact the original seeds made by the Cultivator's Choice producers, not further downline reproductions. When you buy these Cultivator's Choice seeds at Breeder's Retail, you know you are getting the original cross, and not somebody else's selection from a future generation.

We of course want to represent the best of Cultivator's Choice, so we looked through the available seeds and realized that we could buy some seeds of all of the lines, or we could focus on select lines and buy up the complete last seed production of the more rare lines, and then come back for the seeds in greater supply.

Since we didn't have an unlimited budget we gobbled up the rarest seeds first, knowing that once they were gone they were truly and forever gone and will not be reproduced, we now have the exclusive supply of this remaining bit of history, and they will be offered exclusively under the Cultvator's Choice brand!

For example, there were only a thousand or so White Widow x Skunk #1, so we bought them all knowing that there would be no more - ever. Same with the White Rhino x Skunk #1, just a hundred or so packs existed, so we bought them all.

These plants were selected clones from the genetic library of a particular bank, and were passed to the Cultivator's Choice team for bulk production of seed. This is how the Sleestack x Skunk #1 was born, the Sleestack itself made great resin, so DNA provided the clone to Team Cultivator's Choice and the cross was made to another great resin plant - Sam's selected Skunk male. This Skunk #1 male was chosen from trials of 20,000 Skunk plants; a feat of progeny testing never before undertaken with cannabis. The bottom line is that you know if the plants made it into the greenhouses to get pollinated, it was highly selected and sought after!

Take the Pot of Gold from Flying Dutchman (A brand now owned by Sensi Seeds.) Pot of Gold (or POG as it is affectionately known) is a line developed by Sam. He selected the parental clone of Hindu Kush from hundreds of plants and made the cross to Skunk #1. The resulting hybrid was then sold by Flying Dutchman as Pot of Gold. During that work, Sam selected a single beautiful POG female from the hybrid generation, and that clone was used for a few other different breeding projects in Holland.

One of Cultivator's Choice producers used Sam's select POG female (with permission) and crossed it back to the Hindu Kush mother for seed work leaning towards the mother side of the cross. After we saw the results from that cross we gobbled up all the remaining seeds as there were only a couple of hundred packs available. Although these particular seeds weren't produced by Cultivator's Choice in house, the fellow and his production was vetted to ensure that they were in line with the strict standards of the Cultivator's Choice brand. You'll see from the results of the cross, the effort was well worth the energy.

One of the major questions of the last couple of weeks seems to be - what about Sam's ORIGINAL Skunk #1?
Sam did say he does have a cache of Skunk #1 seeds..
However, they germinate at just above 10+ %, and he wouldn't sell them to the market place. The curious and exciting thing about these seeds is that they were derived from the Skunk #1 seed that Sam developed in the US during the 70's and early 80's, not from the 'refined' skunk #1 line that resulted from the test cross program that created the dutch Skunk #1

This seed lot is a raw open pollinated field grown reproduction of these original Skunk #1 seeds. This means there is more genetic variability than the line-bred and tightly progeny tested Skunk #1 that has been replicated in Holland for decades. If you wanted to start your own Skunk #1 breeding project, this is what you would want to start with as it's the closest thing you will find to what was brought to Holland in the 80's. Don't let that make you think these are random crosses of skunk, these seeds had already undergone a decade of selection in Monterey County, and just farther north in Santa Cruz.

So the question I have for the Skunk #1 fans and hunters is - would you be interested in large packs of these OP Cali-derived Skunk #1 - IF we could pry them out of Sam's hands? Because pry we have, we now have a kilo of these super rare Skunk seeds! The germination rate is much lower than normally acceptable, although about 10-15% do still germinate and grow vigorous plants. We just had to get these out to growers looking for a a kick at the real, original USA derived Skunk #1!

Of course we wwill need to package 100+ seeds per pack at least, so growers could ensure they are still getting 10 plants to choose from. If anybody wants larger numbers of these seeds to get a population together to reproduce, we will happily make larger packs available, because this is just one of those rare lines that has to be preserved for the good of the community!

And finally... what is the Haze #5 in the Haze #5 x O.Haze/Skunk #1 work?

Haze #5 is a Haze clone Sam came across during his Haze selections and was originally labelled X5. Typically Haze in flavor, scent and effect - but the size of the seed was much larger. When loaded into the greenhouses it produced huge plants of classical Hazey spicy scent and flavour. Indoor the clone is reported to flower from 18-22 weeks, a true equatorial expression of the historically important line.

There are other special Cultivator's Choice lines that we are going back for, we want those gems in our catalogue! Check back in and we will make announcements when we get additional stock.

Thanks a million million million for this info.

Any chance we can know where the White Widow & Rhino are derived from?
It's more of a curiosity for me.

I AM INTERESTED in the Sk#1 originals fo damn sho. Would like a few hundred so I can do another OP.

Is there any chance Chi will be cracking some of those Sk#1 originals to search through? Maybe crossing it into the BCRK cut?

I'm also curious about the lines not yet acquired.
What else are you looking at getting in stock?
