Bud Density and Mold
It's often said that denser buds are more prone to mold than airy buds, in general. However, the most mold proof strains I've seen personally have also been some of the densest flowering. Too tight to let moisture in, you might say. I live in a fairly cold climate so I'm not sure how temps would come into play. I can't finish tropical sativas here and I wonder if the dense indicas that perform perfectly in this climate would turn to mush in a more tropical locale.
Is it more a matter of genetic resistance to botrytis and not so much the density of the flowers? |

Growing cannabis outdoors has several advantages, but you should always take the environmental conditions into consideration when choosing a strain. Some things you cannot control outdoors are the weather and bugs feeding on your plants. But some strains are endowed with higher resistance to mold and pests, drastically reducing the chance to end up with moldy buds. Some say the best defense against botrytis is cultural practices and genetics. Usually strains that produce big dense buds will be the most mold prone but not always.
