the loss of Overgrow finally hitting home
It didn't really hit me that hard when it first happened. I had tons of posts and karma and had met a bunch of cool people and got involved in great conversations. But when the site went down I wasn't too upset, I just moved on.
but after spending a few months trying to find a new home here and elsewhere, it finally dawns on me how special OverGrow was. By NO means am I knocking this site or forum so please don't accuse me of doing so. However a lot of posts of conversations I've tried to initiate just fall flat. I once posted how I felt about the MMJ laws in Cali and how I percieved they were affecting the national MMJ movement. I care about it as a medical user, I care deeply about it. The post was deleted and I was told I was "hurting the community". Just because I raised a point that I thought should have been discussed (about how a lot of non-sick people are abusing the system and perhaps lessening the strength of a national MMJ movement). This is something I've discussed with people in DC that work for the MPP and Norml and have had meaningful conversations about it and many activists have agreed with my opinions. I was pretty much attacked on here for that even though almost every serious marijuana activist I've talked to has agreed with me at least to a certain extent. When I used to live in DC I was close to several activists and lobbyists fighting for the movement. I used to see that passion on OG. Another example was when I tried to initiate conversation about the massive flooding many areas got this year and how it probably destroyed a lot of outdoor crops. It destroyed everything I had, I know that much. The thread made it to 1 or 2 replies and died off. On OverGrow that would have been a 3 page thread in a day or two. No one seemed interested That just seemed to set the tone. This place almost seems to have a completely different vibe than OG, a different attitude. I can't pinpoint it and I'm not complaining (I know, if I don't like it I should leave) but I just don't think I understand. It seems much less welcoming and friendly, much more cold and dark. Oh well, have a good day my fellow OG refugees. Last edited by Corinado; 08-15-2006 at 05:31 PM.. |

I think this site has not yet have the same momentum OG once had. No site has. Just wait till next year, when the dust will be settled somewhat.

to be honest, although there are a lot of med growers here, this site isnt set up specifically for med use. There is a med forum, but most in there dont want to start knocking non med users. We are all users. As for you loosing your crop, sorry about that, but we can't really do much about it. This site is more personality lead, and once you have been around for a while, you'll find it most welcoming, its just recently we have had a large influx of new memebers, and some of them have become one of us, and some have just come to knock us. I guess some folks are just waiting to see whose who. Stick around, post your grows, read some threads, and get out of the ogrefugee forum and into the main site. The only thing I can suggest other than that, is to keep the tone of your threads positive, rather than (and this is an example not what i believe you posted), "damn recreational users ruining our med movement". One more little comment, clearly this site will have a different feel to OG, as this site and OG were once up at the same time, and most here chose to be here not OG, so you can see from that that we wanted something that was a little different that OG. Just my views on the it.

yea I see what you mean GMT. I never was looking for sympathy for my arguments or flood loss...I was always just trying to spark conversation. I'm not *that guy* who looks for sympathy on messageboards. LOL. Always just looking to spark interesting debate like I did on OG...or find people in similiar situations. Sometimes that can come off the wrong way I guess.
Also now that I think about it a lot could have to do with me having a few hundred posts and a few bars of karma on OG...and then coming here with a small # and kind of expecting the same thing. That makes sense. I'll give it some more time :-) I'd love to try and find some people I used to talk to on OG but I just don't think they're here. I've searched all the roll call threads and such. |

Yeah I know what ya mean, its like haveing your regular bar condemmed and then walking into a new bar, your freinds arent there to welcome your arrival. But once you are a regular here, there'll be a new bunch of freinds to welcome you. Not the same, but still nice.

The lady makes a valid point. If you dont like it that much then why are you here? I actually prefered IC over OG when OG was up and running. OG was more like high school and IC was a more mature crowd focused more on growing and les on the immature bickering. Once OG went down alot came here and it did change the tone quite a bit. Nevermind |

Of course OG was amazing but we must put aside our longing for the past and forge ahead...
This website is what we make of it. period. I will work harder to answer peoples' questions....please if anyone reads this and has a specific question do not hesitate to pm me.....if i cannot answer the question i know enough people so that i can refer you to someone who can answer it.... |

I have been very gracious and happy with all the people I have come into contact with from OG. I even came into some threads and said I like the new people that you guys bring a lot to this forum. I have never, not once said anything about OG people hurting this site or lumped them all in one group, quite the opposite actually. The person I posted that reply to has been at IC for years, it wasn't directed at any OG er. Last edited by pieceofmyheart; 08-15-2006 at 11:15 PM.. |
