Soooo. I decided to transplant into a 3 gallon First to let the root system further develop and then transplant into a bigger pot. They are looking very green and healthy !! The first Malawi is bigger than the second with a broader leaf structure and smells slightly of spicy grapefruit. The second Malawi has a little bit thinner leaf structure and smells something reminiscent of subtle sage (that's the best way I can describe it). The 1st one is developing above soil much faster than the 2nd one. However; the thinner leaf slower growing plant has a more extensive root system. They're wrapping around the bottom of the solo cup. Very excited to see what happens next. They've both been transplanted and topped!! Let's see what they look like by Sunday!!

Thanks a lot. As do yours. Yours leaf structure seem to be a bit thinner. I wish we could trade a few cuttings. I'm not sure exactly what I'll finish them in, but I'll probably veg them for at least another 2 weeks. I need to take cuttings I case they're keepers. How long will you veg for??

Unfortunately both the Feds and our state governments seem to have bad attitudes about our shared hobby. Some people do manage to trade/seeds/cuttings.....not sure how to do that safely.

My plan is to veg until the next pot (2 gal fabric) is thoroughly rooted and I'm able to feed once a day. When that happens I'll decide on topping/LST.....or perhaps au naturel with some. So......maybe 2-3 weeks.

Some observations so far: the Golden Tigers are both larger than the Malawis. The Zimadellicas are shorter but seem bushier. Panama Hazes are about the same size as the Malawis.

One of my PHs (the last to germinate) had some top leaves start to canoe after it's 2nd feeding in the 1 gal pots. None of the other strains or the other PH has this problem. After searching the forum for answers I'm convinced that no one knows why this occurs....although there seems to be a lot of opinions and guesses. My guess is that it's likely to be environmental and not feed. I had arranged the grow room differently the same day and the fan may have been blowing too strongly on this plant.....which developmentally was already a few days behind because it was the last to germ and be up-potted. Don't know for sure if that was the cause.....but after moving the fan.....she hasn't had any MORE canoeing. However the couple of leaves that had already canoed have not straightened out either. Not sure if they will or even should straighten.....but all the other leaves SEEM to be OK. Unless it gets worse.....I'm not going to worrry about it.

Yeah these are idiotic laws that are currently in place. Especially in the south where we are. The "WAR" on drug was a complete failure and reganomics completely destroyed entire communities!! The world is becoming a different place though and this country is starting to realize the immense potential of this sacred plant!! I look forward to the day we can grow massive trees in our backyards. I also agree with the canoeing being the fan. My re-veg plants canoed in the beginning until I moved them from the direct path of the fan and they've grown without issue since then. The ones that conked initially never did unroll though, so I definitely think that's the issue because we had that in common. I would definitely love to see what the others look like as well. Maybe post a few pics of the zamaldelica, Panama and GT. Thanks in advance!!

P.S.

Are they giving off any fragrance yet??

Oh yahhh!!! During a cold spell we had a few days ago I turned off the exhaust fan overnight to try and hold some heat in....6am my wife (getting ready for work) wakes me up to tell me she was in the garage and could smell the plants. I am now leaving the fan on 24/7.

Glad that we agree on the (hopefully) cause of my PH canoeing a few leaves. I'm also relieved to hear that your plants leaves never un-curled. As long as I know that and I don't have any MORE canoeing leaves.....I'll assume the problem has been solved.....hopefully.

I think the canopy on my plants is starting to get too big for the veg light. Thinking about arranging them vertically around the 860w tomorrow. I've read a few posts that suggests acclimating your vegging plants to a vertical bulb is helpful.....if you're going to grow vertically through flowering. They are also due a feeding so it might be a good time. Once I accomplish this I'll try to get you some pics. The photos should turn out better under a CDM than LED.

Let me know how the vertical set up works out. I've never tried it before. What's the advantage of flowering vertically?? I smell mine as soon as I get into the garage, especially during flower. I can't smell them outside though.

Thankfully!
There are numerous benefits to vertical growing. Instead of trying to list and explain them all (which I'd probably screw up)....here is a link that might help:https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=127881
One of the reasons I chose it was because it allows me to use the entire 80" of my grow space height. I like sativas so available height is important. I also think it helps to maximize the power/light available. Guess we'll find out together during this Malawi grow whether it's helpful.

I've seen posts where people have rigged up cool tubes and run the light vertically in those. Not sure how they rigged it.....but you know the people on this site....if there is a way to do it....someone will.
I think most people (including me) just bare bulb it. Put a fan underneath (am using the 15" Honeywell HT-908) pointing up towards the bulb and blow the hot air up.....and away from the plants. Exhaust fan will suck the heat out from the top and filter it. Cool the temps by drawing in cool air. I have an A/C in my lung room along with a variable controller on my 8" exhaust fan/filter. I'll adjust the air flow (exhaust) until I get the temps to what I want. 8" fan is over sized for our tents.....but am hoping with enough air flow and cool enough lung room intake air that I'll be able to control the temps. You have a ring side seat for this effort so you will know how well it works shortly after I do.
