sick baby
I'm guessi be ng it's magnesium and calcium deficiency. It started about 10 days ago after I transplant. A first all 4 plants started to show brown spots on the lower older leaves on the day after transplant on 3 of the plants it stopped spreading didnlt go pass the two first bottom leaves. butt this one did. So I don't really know. All four have the same soil Dr earth's organic potting soil the black bag I add more perlit and mixed in a little coco blend in 5 gallon smart pots . This one seedling was the first that I transplant and I was not as gentle with it as the other 3 but it did grow a lot from then to now so ???? The growth did slow down the last few days on this one. Any Advice would awesome

Yeah from what I can see looks like a cal/mag problem, but I've had zinc deficiency in the past that looked like this too, but my bet is on either cal or mag.
Any nutrients your useing at the moment? If I was you I would flush out the soil till you see ALOT of runoff. Then for 5 feedings or so add a cal mag additive with your feed water. I recommend humboldt nutrients equilibrium, or you could go with botanicare Cal-Mag Plus too.

Cant be calcium deficient if its bottom leaves are turning brown. Magnesium more likely. Judging by the color of the overall plants they have sufficient Nitrogen. So one possible scenario is excess calcium and Nitrogen binding and forcing more magnesium to be consumed probably from ph'ing down too often with coco in your soil unallowing for magnesium to form proper nitrates. If your plants had anymore N or Iron you probably would have had less burn but the claw would have developed. the claw is rarely accompanied by burn because if nitrogen binds with the calcium then the magnesium acts like the buffer between them and vice versa. Dont feed calcium and mag at same time especially when using dechlorinated tap. Calcium is far more abundant than Magnesium

Definitely NOT a magnesium deficiency.
Going to be a great day when nobody shouts "Cal/Mag" for every photo with a supposed deficiency. Rarely do you need both calcium (with nitrate) AND magnesium, with today's mixes. Have a magnesium deficiency? Your first thought should be to reach for the epsom salt, not a bottled something or other. |
