Metals in nutrients

I have cleaned some dirty.pipes, grinders ect. In virgin laquer thinner. I noticed the magnets on the grinders had collected black material. After removing the sirty parts from the chemical, I turned the jar upside down and let sit on a n/s polar magnet (very strong) and unscrewed the lid with magnet connected...alas the underside.of the lid was stuck materials obviously drawn to the magnet.
Any input?

Aluminum. Thought about that as I am a certified 6g combo welder. Aluminum is non ferrous and is not magnetic.

Many heavy metals are essential for plants and animals when present in the growing medium in low concentrations (micronutrients: Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, and Co); they become toxic only when a concentration limit is exceeded (in which case the term ‘heavy metals’ rather than ‘micronutrients’ is used.

I always assumed that's why we flush. Maybe an improper flush or none at all?

scissors could leave behind some metal shavings while you're trimming

Why would you clean anything with laquer thinner? Id be concerned with the cheap metal used in most cheap chinese made grinders might react with something in it. Some are made with acetone and some are made with a pile of other shit... ive put a grinder in the wrong pipe cleaning solution and it turned it black. It was an aluminum grinder, cheap, made in china. When i opened it after it dried it was full of metalic dust. I dont buy cheap grinders anymore and i only buy solution thats safe for all pipes and grinders (glass and metal products)

I am going to guess it probably wasnt a santa cruz shredder or a space case you had this happen with. Next time buy a better grinder and use approved solution for it. The grinder may be aluminum primarily but if its from china it probably is not aircraft grade... its probably loaded with contaminants, and if you clean it with the wrong shit probably has potential to cause a bad reacion. Ive seen it firsthand, so your mention is not the first ive seen/heard of this happening.

I highly doubt you were able to get a bunch of magnetic dust out of your weed. Not unless it was coated in it in which case you probably dont want to be smoking it... im going to guess as you are on a weed growing site you probably grew it yourself and didnt spray it with iron shavings... 90% chance it came from the grinder and by posti g how you cleaned it, gave a likely explanation as to where your magnetic dust came from

While elemental (aka 'pure') aluminum is considered 'not magnetic', typical commercial-grade aluminum alloys sold by metal dealers are smelted in commercial arc furnaces that use iron-based crucibles... ...long story short, most commercial grade aluminum contains trace amounts of iron, which makes these alloys susceptible to very high strength magnetic fields.

You won't feel it until you have the kind of field strength that will separate the iron from the plasma in your blood in reasonably short order. That requires insanely strong magnets and tight magnetic return gaps, akin to the width of a typical small test tube. That said, given sufficient field strength, you can feel a piece of aluminum wiggle as you pass it through that gap.

Kaiser Aluminum spec sheets list residual iron (Fe) content in their alloys:
2024 alloy: 0.0% min, 0.5% max
6061 alloy: 0.0% min, 0.7% max
7075 alloy: 0.0% min, 0.5% max
(source - https://www.kaiseraluminum.com/customers/products/info/).

All that said, none of this information answers your actual question as to what is stuck to your whatchamacallit. I just wanted to add some information to the discussion.

you say you're a welder. If you use a metal grinder at work or if some one else is using one. You will bring home shavings on your cloths and in your hair. Every part of you will have shavings.

I'm betting that you have contaminated your stuff. That is if you're still welding.

I'm also a welder among a laundry list of other things.

Being old school I don't get the use of grinders. Also living in a state where ALL things pot related is a paraphernalia charge. Why one would carry one is beyond me. My leathermans has sizers and wont get me a charge...

But hey it's all good.

if you lack mn in your formula your plant will take up iron in its place. then the plant cannot properly metabolize that iron and voila...magnetic material in the ash

what are you feeding these plants? imo every bottled nute on the planet has too much iron and not enough mn

but then you gotta think for yourself and lets be honest...how many growes are gonna do that and even fewer, how many are capable of that?
