A grower of our strains from another forum mentioned 3 gallon was ok, but sees the need to have larger vessel. dickcorn started with 3 gallon grow bag when it became root bound. Suggested he cut the bottom of the grow bag carefully not to severe/cut roots and place atop another 3 gallon bag. His results were astounding.

That's why we mention start with large container and no transplanting. We do because of the number of plants used for pheno/breeding, but we transplant early when we can eye ball (before showing sex) and always take entire root ball into larger vessel. Too much shuffling around hampers final yield.

Don't feel like you need to do day-by-day reports. It's your option when/how often.

Too, like another grower (growing out semi auto)....whatever you do, please don't throw excess leaves/fan leaves atop the soil....it will harbor fungi, mold and all sorts of problems!! It can ruin all that hard work within days of spore incubation.

Yes, LST is great...you'll reap more for sure!

Update and pics

Greetings friends.
The 6 girls were moved into the flower tent last night and have plenty of light and space to grow now. They have been growing a lot this week. Now that they have 600w of HPS they will really start packing on the growth. Here is a pic of them in their new home.
Whoops it doesn't look like I can add pics anymore. I guess there is some bugs to work out in the new look icmag. You can check my "Autos" album for pics until I can figure out how to add to posts.

After watching some YouTube vids and reading some tutorials I decided to LST the 2 tallest girls. I had a hard time bringing myself to tie them down. Let it be known I'm kind of a chicken to try new things. I decided to not be such a big baby and give it a try. I don't have any side branching to speak of right now so I just bent the main stalk over and tied it down. As the others get bigger I may try this with them as well. I'll probably leave at least one in the natural shape to see how different they end up. I'd love to add a pic of the newly lst'd plant but can't add pics so again go to album if you like. These updates aren't going to be nearly as interesting without pics. If there's one thing I've learned it's that we love pics here at icmag.

That's about it for now. I'll be keeping a close eye on them and making regular updates. Let's hope I can start adding pics again soon. Thanks for stoping by to check out this grow...Fiddy.

Sounds good ab.
I'll be using bigger pots and the 2 seedling per pot technique next time for sure. Might even try the fabric pots since not transplanting. I haven't used them before but have herd good things about them.
As far as covering the soil with leaves ect I won't be doing any of that. I can see why the no till and living soil guys do it but since I'm growing with regular soil and nutes there's no need for that.
Thanks again for the links to the LST info. Like usual with YouTube I started watching the LST bowl technique but then started following random links and before I knew it I was watching vids on free form dreadlocks. Isn't YouTube great

Good morning Rodehazrd.
Plenty of room for 6 in that tent. Kind of nice to have some space after the crowding I had going on a week or so ago. Afterthought autos are great people and are great to work with. Great customer service and made in America. PM ab for a catalogue.
Doing these journals helps me learn. I keep a good log but when I put up these updates it like I get a second chance to review what I've done and what I plan on doing. Also if I'm lucky and about to do something stupid there is a chance someone will tell me that there might be a better way. I like doing them as well. Speaking of updates the girls are growing a lot and I'm going to get some pics and make a post letter today.
I hope your 2017 is off to a good start and you had a great weekend...Fiddy.

Update and pics

Good afternoon friends.
Not much to report but growth seems good and the girls look happy. Lots of flowers stacking up and pistils all over the place. They are not using a lot of water yet and after 3 days since water the soil is still moist on top. Once the roots get more developed I'm expecting to water about every 3 days. They love the HPS light and they are getting some side branching that I will try some more LST with.
Here are a couple pics of them.

The one on bottom left was looking slightly droopy in this pic. The pic was take at the end of their 18 hour light cycle. The same plant looked fine after the dark period and looked fine this morning after 12 hours of light as well.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out this grow...Fiddy.

Update.

Greetings friends.
Just a quick update today. The girls went 4 and 1/2 days between waterings last time and are growing steadily. Not the explosive growth you get during the stretch but a nice steady growth. The bud sights are developing nicely and the girls are getting some nice scent to them. I think the soil I used was a little hot for them and there might be a bit more nitrogen than would be ideal. The leaves are darker green than I'm use to seeing and a couple have a very slight clawing. Just going to stick with pH'd water for a while. I expect that they will get more thirsty as they get bigger.
The lady's are starting to fill out some and I have some side branching to work with now. I will spend some time with the string and twist ties this weekend and do some more LST. They were planted 30 days ago and should be close to half way to completion. Here is a pic of them. Sorry for the bad lighting, I'll get a lights off pic for the next update.

That's it for today. Thanks for dropping by and checking out my grow...Fiddy.

Update and pics

Good morning friends.
I want to do a more proper update this time and I think I finally got some better pics of the girls. They got a few cups each of plain pH'd water last night and are looking good. They are growing more quickly now and I've had to raise the light a few inches over the last few days. The A-rockets are the tallest and most aggressive growers of the bunch and I have 3 of them. I haven't been paying a lot of attention to which are which since I have 6 lady's and I know 3 are A-rockets but not sure what the ratio of the other 3 are. It dosent much matter since I'll be giving the same love to all of them.

We are at the half way mark as these girls were planted on 12/14/16 and have been above ground about 30 days or so. For such young plants they sure are little bud factories. They are really stacking on the buds. They are also starting to frost up a bit and getting a little of that young plant funkiness to them. I think the next few weeks are going to be interisting watching them.

Here are a couple pics of the A-rocket. The 2 most aggressive were bent over and tied down to get a more even canopy. You can see how the buds are stacking up on the main and side stalks. I really like the looks of these two girls.

The other A-rocket was left to grow naturally and is the most bushy of the bunch. I may use a little LST to open up the center a little so it gets more light. Light penetration on the rest is great since there's not a ton of leaves on them. This is a nice looking plant.

Not sure which of the 3 non rockets this is but it's going to be a nicely stacked cola. Looking really good.

I'm really happy with how these girls are growing out. They are really packing on the buds and are staying well under control.

I've been reading about the icmag yogurt cup challenge and thinking that it looks like a fun contest. I'd like to try it sometime and think an auto would make a great plant for such a challenge. Reading through past challenges I see that watering and feeding become a big issue as the roots fill up and take over the cup. Most people seem to have success with drip type watering or bottom watering. It seems the roots become so packed in that you have a hard time getting any water into the root ball. A few people have managed to grow some pretty nice plants in the tiny cup so it can be done. I'd like to give it a go but I'm undecided. I've got a few weeks to think about it since it dosent end until the end of May.

Here is a group shot.

That's about it for the update. Thanks for stopping by and checking out this grow...Fiddy.
