Fiddynut tries some autos
Greetings friends.
I just got some seeds from afterthought autos and I couldn't wait to try them. Seeds got to me quickly and afterthought was great to work with. They were quick to respond to questions and gave great advise. I'm an inexperienced grower who has been growing less than a year. I've got one completed grow under my belt and I'm about half way through a second. Now that winter is here in the midwest its a great time to stay indoors with your plants. That makes it a perfect time to get another grow started for me. For the next few weeks I'm going to have my hands full with my flowering girls finishing, the rooted cuttings I took from them, and now we will put some autos in the mix. This may be just what I need to keep the winter blues away. With the full moon last night I decided to plant three strains. I'm trying AVGas, ARocket and FuelFilled. I soaked 4 seeds of each strain yesterday while I was at work. I planted the seeds in party cups with happy frog soil. I had filled the cups with soil the night before and soaked them with plain water. I have the tray of cups in a spot in my house that stays between 69-72f. In a couple days they will go into my 2'x4'x6' tent under a 216w T5. As soon as the males show I'll get rid of them and pot up the girls. I plan on finishing them under a 600w HPS in my other tent which is 3'x3'. I'll do updates every couple days or so and I'll include plenty of pics as they grow.

This should be fun. I'm looking forward to getting some good growing experience this winter. If things work out I should have a good variety of buds to puff. Love me some dead Lester. Going where the climate suits my clothes, going where the water tastes like wine. Peace...Fiddy.

Good afternoon ab.
This is going to be fun and should keep me out if trouble for a while. Several of the seeds had cracked with just a short soak before planting so I'm looking for sprouts in a couple days. Since I'm a new grower I'll probably be making some mistakes but that's part of learning for me, I usually have to learn the hard way. I'll update when some break the soil.

Just don't over water, over fertilize, have an optimal environment, they'll do the work for you. Good luck!

I think I've done ok with my grows so far but lots of room for improvement. That's expected for a noob like me but I'm taking it seriously and learning from the mistakes I do make. As long as I keep learning and improving I'll be happy. As far as environment I think I'm in good shape but I don't know how much the plants will like the dry winter air. Temps, circulation, air exchange, amount and spectrum of light have all been working well so far. I've learned to water by the weight of the pots and I let them get nice and light. As far as nutes go I'm known for underfeeding because I've seen that the easiest way to kill your plants is with too many nutes. I've done a better job of feeding my girls on the second grow and I think I'm getting the hang of it but will still error on the light side. That leaves humidity as the only thing that I'm worrying over a bit. My first grow during the summer I was hard pressed to keep RH below55%. Now it's been around 40% for a lot of the currant grow and that seems like it's working well. But the cold dry air is moving in and as of this morning RH was closer to 35%. Not sure if it will drop more or not because I never kept track of it before I started growing. As long as the plants look happy I'll be ok with it. If it does drop more I will try a humidifier. I'm sire I'm not the only person that fights the humidity swings from summer to winter. Just have to watch and see. And water more often when it's dry.

Plants tell you what you need. You just have to "read" them.
You're off to a great start!

My plants tell me all kinds of things but I'm not always capable of understanding them. I think the more time I spend with them the more I understand their language. One of the reasons I'm trying the autos now is that I'm inexperienced and don't have as many preconceived notions about how plants "should" be. Also I feel like experiencing different types of plants will give me broader knowledge than if I kept running the same strain and cloning it over and over. I want to learn to grow all kinds of cannabis in various different conditions. Then I will be able to call myself a ganja farmer.

Update and pics
Good morning friends.
It's been very busy at work and we had 2 snow storms over the weekend so this update has been delayed for a couple days. Better late than never. I'm happy to report that all 12 seeds have sprouted and are above the soil. Most have shed their hull and are off and running. Not sure if it was the full moon or what but a perfict 12 for 12 is great. All the seedlings look happy and healthy. I have moved them nice and close to the light and I'm letting them get nice and dry between waterings. My plan it to let the mails show themselves and then repot the lady's. I may have started with slightly too small containers for them. I'll have to watch them and see if the start getting root bound. If they get grumpy I'll transplant sooner. Here are some pics of the baby's. All is looking well and now I just need to give them some time to get growing. I'm a little nervous about how much space I'll have to work with as they start getting bigger. I suppose if I end up with a lot of girls I may have to finish some of them under the t5's after fitting as many as possible into the other tent with the HID. That is about it for today's update. I'll be updating more regularly form now on since there is some action. Thanks for stoping by to check out this grow...Fiddy.
