This is an Old thread from Grat3fulh3ad, perlite tray cloner.

solid tech.

YES! ive seen this yrs ago... but i wanted to get away from the fact that the roots sometimes get tangled up together cause their all in the same container. and can cause damage when pulling them apart.

I wanted something more individual and simple no wicking trays or anything.. just a container.. a hole.. perlite.. clone.. and domed tray.

IMO there is many ways to root clones, however the success of any method seems to start with the health of the mother plant.

I like the idea of no hormone, do you reuse the perlite? I hate perlite myself for many reasons.

Never have needed the hormones.. Ive tried them but roots never produced any faster.

I will update the rest of this and how these clones are so easy to wash off the perlite and have a bare root clone for you to do as you please.

YES 100% agreed! success of any clones require a healthy mother. The better off she is the higher your success.. but ive cloned successfully cuttings from very unhealthy moms with this method when other methods have failed.

lol perlite it can be messy but when your clones are done you wash it all off in about 10 secs and go about your transplant.

Great clone tutorial, SGS!
When we used to do photos, it was a similar process. Got burned using peat cubes, rock wool was to water dense. Then....we used (styro coffee cups instead of the famed Solo cup), and perlite...no hormones. Works like a charm!

Good catching up with you.
Grow on!

Can't speak for SGS, but freshly cut clones, only need ambient light.
We don't put freshly cut clones under direct light. Once you see roots, THEN you can gradually give them more light. And, when you see new growth, you can give them full light with the rest of your plants in vegetative growth. The light cycle for clones should be 18 hours on, 6 hours off.
Putting clones under intense light is counter productive...you want root growth first, followed by plant growth.
Outdoors, we do the same as what SGS mentioned, but have them in shady area.

good tutorial man,
an important factor that one could add is lighting... arid already mentioned no direct lighting. this is very important... if you have a light, then at 3-4 foot distance..
T5 / cfl are sufficient for sure!

So you leave the water In it right below the hole you punched in it a cpl inches from the bottom?
I'm going to try this tomorrow. Everything's just went to 12/12 yesterday. I moved a few mothers into veg room. To clone then go back in flower. I'll report how it worked. My domes aren't that tall for a solo cup and a long cut. So I'll be using the coffee cup.
Great read and thank you
