New CA Grower - Suggestions for LED Lights
Greetings, I am looking to take advantage of the passing of CA Prop 64 that allows residents to grow up to 6 plants in the privacy of their home. I will be using a spare bedroom closet that measures 2.5' x 6' x 8' height. I plan on using 5-gallon containers. Would like to use LED to keep temperatures down, I'm in Southern Cal.
Currently I'm looking at MarsHydro Reflector96 and 144. Would love to hear opinions if these are a good choice, too much, too little. Also if the Reflector 144 says 317 true watt show do i figure monthly usage if I'm paying .15 per kWh. Thanks! |

Knowledge is here; Search you must.
Like you I too am a newb, In fact this is my first post, though I have been lurking here for over a year. During that time I have found the answers to all of my questions using the search function and reading the stickys. Based on what I have found I have gone from from never having grown weed to building a stealth cfl grow box (Thanks BlueAdept!), completing two small successful grows and formulating plans to upgrade to a properly equipped 5 x 5 tent right after Thanksgiving. Everything I am about to purchase from the tent to the LEDs to the ventilation fans and scrubber have all been reviewed, tested and proven by seriously experienced growers on this site. Their knowledge is gold and we are fortunate so many have taken the time to share their experience. I promise you the answers you seek now and probably far into the future are already here in this forum and have been answered many times over. You just need to take the time to find them.

Go with something that has UV. Some COB's like spyder lights have UV. Although their marketed plant distances to get the spread is a bit high.
I like phytomax by black dog for specs. Mars hydro has cheap lights good for veg plants. Probably do just fine in a pinch for flowering.

Take a look at this when you get a chance. Most LED lights being sold are already outdated technology. When I get around to it, plan on 800 watts for a 4' x 8' area.

Basically it 25 watts per square foot of space ...figure out how many plants per square foot and how you are allocating towards your LED lights

Yea well, time to get killed on these boards again for recommending Black Dog LED
Yes expensive, Yes High Quality. Lots of technical info on there site for those who understand. ROI information as well It's all I use. They work fantastic. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. I ended up getting 3. But I will get destroyed most likely by the many enthusiasts who know more then me. I have used other LEDs and I have not had one that sucked, so if you buy a reputable brand you will be good. I was at a canna event recently. There were 20 different LED vendors there. Each with their Spiel. I am glad I found a brand I like. anyway that's my 2 cents. |

Cree has the best leds imo. Its prety easy to build yourself. Growmou5 has some good videos on YouTube. I been building my own for a few years and played around with alot of different kinds. You want the white led's not the purple!
