Try growing a pineapple next time. It's easy and I did it a few years ago.

Like anything..... you should not plant seeds where the parentage is unknown....

Im not sure you mentioned the source of your fruit....

However many orchards use crab apples for pollen....

WHich makes the seeds planted from this pollen inferior ..... because the fruit will likely...

suck....

Here’s an interesting article. About half way thru it gets into origins and breeding of apple cultivars.

Around here we have a lot of old abandon farmsteads. Most were abandon during the dust bowl. There was a popular pear tree in those days called quince.

There are a lot of places you find them. Three about three or four generations out. They still grow like the original trees.

I have a few on my place now. They make great wine. They store easy. Just wrap them in paper and slide them into a cool place. They are good until new years and beyond.

How did Johnny Appleseed get his seeds ? I'm thinking just from apples of the day.

Maybe they had better fathers & pollen sources.

From cider presses, his apples were not eating apples they were cider apple seeds, very popular with settlers starting new farms, they plant them for the alcohol the apples make. Faster and easier then most fruit to use for alcohol.

Organic fruits

I take seed from organic fruit I buy at the store, Avocado see great example below), Lemon and Lime(Have to keep wet to germ), My wife threw out the cracking avocado pits I had as they had time left to sprout but looked bad (if you didnt have a greenthumb, or mainly really just patience)

Side note, the Arbor Day foundation I think gives you free trees for signing up, which does cost about 10-20 dollars, and 3 hazelnuts fr an extra support cost, another 10-20 bucks, just a helpful strategy for anyonewho likes trees, they give great discounts on their stock if say your states nurseries and conservation departments are sold out, they are usually cheapest.

I'm currently looking for heritage fruits and a good source/s of heirlooms and op seed for self sustaining food crops, and farmers market products, great income possibilities
