Mason's hydrated lime = dolomite lime?
I have checked EVERY nursery and home improvement center and outdoor/camping type place in town... I'm talking about 12+ stores here too...
The only lime I have found is "Mason's hydrated lime"... is this the same as dolomite lime? I asked a few different stores about why they don't carry it and all the people at the nurseries said it's because our soil is already alkaline here and no one uses it (They could have said acidic, I forget) and of course all the dumbasses at the home depot's and lowes' just say "Uh... what lime? Uhhh what's dolomite lime...?" I'm stuck here! I've got everything but the damn lime!

no hydrated lime is not the same... It reacts much much faster than dolomite... I have found dolomite sold as crushed limestone, and pulverized limestone, as well as dolomitic lime and 'garden' lime.....

Lowes and home depot should have dolomite lime. It probably will be in a 50 pound bag. Costs about $4.

they don't stock it at the local hydro store...all i can find is these damn 50# bags of garden lime...picked one up a few weeks ago and so far i've used about a cup of it.
this thing is going to last me about 10 years at this rate... anyways, for comparisons sake, i'll list what it says on the bag of the stuff i got at HD: Garden Lime (mix of calcitic and dolomite lime) Guaranteed Analysis: Calcium Carbonate Equivalence 90% Calcium as CaCO3: 78.1% Magnesium as MgCO3 10% (this part lists the breakdown of it being a powdered form) Passing 8 mesh sieve, not less than 90% Passing 20 mesh sieve, not less than 80% Passing 50 mesh sieve, not less than 50% Moisture, not more than 10% Last edited by wizardisblazed; 08-11-2006 at 01:14 PM.. |

Not so funny, more like aggrivating, but anyways... I drove all the way down there and the lady tells me they don't have any. I can't believe that, I actually said on the phone "It's DOLOMITE LIME and not HYDRATED LIME right? I want DOLOMITE LIME" Lady: "Yes, we have dolomite lime" So I'm in the store, I look around, find the hydrated lime... "Uh, excuse me... where's your dolomite lime?" Lady: "We don't carry dolomite lime" Let's just say I took some frustration out on the car. (Thank god there were no cops around) ![]() I ended up having to order off the internet
