GFXBB root bound and auto flowering - HELP
Hey everyone! I have two GFxBB that are root bound and have started flowering in my veg room. What should I do? Can I transplant into bigger containers and maybe the plants will go back into veg mode? Or should I try to take clones and hope for the best? Thanks everyone!

Two of them autoflowering? How did you come to the conclussion autoflowering? Just pistils or are they budding? What is your light schedule in vegg? How long have they been vegging?
Size of container ? Pictures? |

It's a trait of the grapefruit, sweet tooth #3 did the same thing to me. I ended up tossing them and never flowering them out. It really sucks when the males start to auto next thing you know you have pollen flying around and who thinks to look in the veg area for male flowers.

Yeah the GF dom ones can do this. There are 2 negatives I found with the GF and that would be very bad bud rot resistance and the rootbound autoflower issue.. And needless to say neither of these scared me off from it heh. I love this cross you just can't let it get rootbound or let humidity get above 45 it seems.

Yeah you know at the time I ran these fabric pots were not a thing I do wonder if this would prevent this! I plan on running citra paradisio at some point as I think the sweet skunk will help prevent the budrot issues so will be cool if they don't have rootbound issues in my fabric pots.

RAW - I suppose auto flowering is the wrong term, but I had one plant with male sacs and pollen dropping and the other plant is showing pistils long before any of the other plants started at the same time. Lots of people mention that spg will start flowering if it becomes rootbound, and I'm 100% certain that is what I'm experiencing (light schedule is 24/0 and the containers are small so it would make sense). Do you know of anyone who has had a spg begin flowering in the veg room and just transplanted to alleviate the issues? That's really what I'm getting at.
Fireinthesky - Yeah, I had heard as much but I really want to preserve the strain in case it becomes a favorite/would love to have gfxbb pollen to make more berry sweet crosses or make f2s. Do you know of anyone who transplanted a grapfruit to alleviate the root bound flowering? or just cloned and vegged? |

Another reason why I ditched SWT #3 bud rot for days, forget about growing this type of strain in the summer. Nothing sucks worse than trimming up a nice looking plant only to find out the entire interior is all bud rot. |

MJPassion - Root pruning? So should I transplant and cut back some roots? I could transplant into fabric pots like 40amps suggested if that would be a good preventative measure.
40amps- I don't think you need to worry about the citra paradiso - I have 3 (soon to finish ) and none of them began flowering in veg, and I am pretty sure they were a little root bound. Any idea on what I can do to help out these GFxBB?

Well first,I've done 2 packs of Gf x BB not a single one has auto flowered on me yet. But you've got two? True the SPG has a tendency to flower when root bound but what people forget is that the bx male Steve used was auto flowering thus in my opinion aggravating the trait later seen in SWT #3. (A trait that seems to show up in the lines where that same male was used). Also what people seem to forget is that the SPG is a poly hybrid, (at least a 3 way hybrid when looking at the different types in the S1's.) The trait is even recessive in the S1's .So when out crossing with the help of yet another type, that trait more is more likely going to be recessive. Also there is a big difference between showing sex (m/f) and budding. A female just showing pistils in veg. usually won't be a problem. But if the female is budding and stops veg. before being put in flower then you've got a problem because of reduced yield since the plant hasn't had a chance to produce enough plant matter.
Also males appearing before being introduced to flower are not uncommon in seedlines. I've been through Next Gen's Dynamite, Dna's Sweet Timer, Alpines S'1's, Deluxe Seeds SWT#3 incross, Chimeras GF x BB and a couple more and no auto flowers so far. But as noted the SPG clone tends to flower when root bound so if your plant truly is budding just replant it. But can't we have a look at your plant? Pictures please. |
