TINCTURES: Freeze + Soak 1 Minute... or Soak a Month ??

I want to try tinctures but the information I'm finding is inconsistent. Some say to freeze the cannabis and Everclear then soak for ony one or two minutes. Others say freeze and soak for a month. Still others say soak at room temperature for a week to a month.

Those who claim frozen plus less than two minutes claim this minimizes the plant material in the tincture. Those who claim soak a full month claim it's the only way to leach out all the resins.

What about soaking frozen for two minutes in Everclear then allowing the cannabis to dry completely and smoke it as very weak weed?

Can I nearly completely evaporate the Everclear then add glycerin to cut it? I HATE the burning of Everclear but its use would allow evaporation and further use of the plant material. So evaporating and replacing with glycerin seems like a viable option. I do realize I can extract in glycerin but then the remaining plant material becomes useless.

Please forgive my newb questions. All advice is appreciated.

Oh... and some people say to heat the tincture to aid in extracting. BTW, I tried an Everclear extraction soaking for a week and hated the taste.

I don't make tinctures but i do make Green Dragon Tea. Some of the things i learned might help you to decide.
I started by taking a mason jar full of herb and everclear and i would have to let it set for weeks...It normal took about4-5 to reach full strength.
That was too slow so i started putting the jar in a crock pot and let it sit around 160 for hours. Over time i found that the strength tends to hit max around 6-7 hours so i now use 8 hours as my cook time to certain i have gotten it all.
I drink this with the everclear still in it. About 15ml in a double shot glass top with siera mist and hope you don't throw up...it tastes NASTY...But hits you good in about 45minutes.
I came up with the bright idea of smoking the remainder when i was trying to quit my cigarette habit...It sounded logical, but it tastes so bad that too can make you throw up so remember you were warned.
I know this isn't directly to your questions but i hope it helps you a little.

Just remembered something i should warn you about.
A few months ago i tried running the tea through a home water distiller. I wanted to remove more alcohol and recover it to reuse. The problem is those are way too hot and they cook off all the cannabinoids leaving nothing. So unless you can find a way to lower the temps in the bottom half w/o changing the fan motor speeds were they recover it in the top part you will just end up loosing everything...It sux to loose 3 ozs. and $120 on the stupid distiller.

Soaking in a polar solvent like ethanol, extracts copious chlorophyll.

I would start with three minutes frozen and adjust from there.

The flavor is strain specific to some extent. I'm not sure the extent to which you hate the flavor of cannabis extract or if its the sensation of putting 190º alcohol in your mouth that you dislike. I water mine down when I'm drinking it. Are you making a tincture to drink or are you trying to make THC pen juice?
I ask because far as tincture for drinking goes it sounds like you're not decarbing your flower before making the tincture (decarbing usually means heating the material at about 250ºF for about 30 minutes - roughly, depends a bit on the material you're using). Not decarbing will cut into potency substantially depending on the age of the material you're using (if you want to eat/drink it - disregard if you're making something to vape). You seem concerned about waste, don't waste your lungs smoking trash. You can still get high off the stuff by eating it after you've let the everclear evaporate away. If you smoke a lot of low quality material you may regret it later on.

It's both the taste and the alcohol burn (sublingual). The quality and strain of material was unknown but that will soon change. Watering down only makes the taste worse because there's just more of it. It was decarboxylated in the oven at 250F for 40 minutes in a thermally insulated cooking pot and the material in an aluminum pan cover tightly with aluminum foil. This allowed far better control over heat so the extreme temperatures in the oven were moderated inside the pot. I used an oven thermometer inside with the plant material.

If THC pen juice is for vaping, then no I'm not vaping. I want to smoke far less than take tincture. I'm hoping I can vacuum evaporate to reclaim the Everclear (it's expensive) and then cut the last bit of tincture with glycerin for better flavor and comfort (nearly all the alcohol gone). I very much dislike the flavor after soaking for a week. I hope the flavor is better with the short 2 minute method but the effect is as good.

If smoking the dried material (good material) is a bad idea then I won't do it. However, it's pricey stuff and I'd rather not waste anything.

0zymurgy will become famous soon enough
I have found the most effective way to create Phoenix tears is to create a precisely heated (173F) vapor column @ 15 min (max) in a large scale force-reflux apparatus, run with organic 191 proof EToH.
I get 55-65% thc using either rosin chips or trim.

IMO, extended agitation and long soak are pulling more side-effects than medicine, clearly shown by how much more green than gold color is present in the tinc.

TheGreenMitten is on a distinguished road
How are you going to use the end product? Are you planning on taking it orally or are you going to vape it?
