First run of Ace Seeds in soil

After a long period of personal instability, i am able to settle down and stay home for a while.

2 projects in mind

Zameldica

Panama

Both from seeds ordered thru Aceseeds.org

My plan was to use the best quality soil i can get
Locally. In my area it will have to be one of the commercial
Name brands. Happy Frog or Fox Farm.
I was going to add extra perlite.

I have plenty of organic NFTG nutrients, the makings
For simple microbe tea.

Starting seeds tonight in a light broth of seaweed extract
Then the paper towel treatment.
Next ill start them in Rapid Rooter plugs. Then into soil.
I have a pair of grow boxes. 1 for each strain.

Comments appreciated.

How I like doing my seed germination:

1. I soak my seed for 8 to 12 hours in just water while they're held under the water with a small piece of cloth.

2. Then I take the seeds out of the water and place them in another piece of folded cloth in a warm location.

3. Once the seeds crack I put them in soil.

I find paper towel dries too fast and/or eventually rips. Cloth doesn't have these problems.

I prefer going straight into soil.

This method works nicely.

I use Happy Frog straight outta the bag with great results. My soil tends to dry out kinda fast in my environment so I don't add any perlite. I used to use FF Ocean Forest. That's a good soil too, but switched to Happy Frog cause it doesn't dry out quite as fast as the Ocean Forest

I put the paper towel in a large ziploc and
Dont seal it. Keep the whole shebang over a warming pad, usually in a vacent dome.

But i like the idea of cloth.

Instead of a warming pad. I also place the cloth with the seeds which is also in a opened plastic bag
right on top of a regular double fluorescent fixture where it's just warm to the touch. But not directly
on the ballast which is too warm. If you use your hand you can feel for the nice heat generated by the
ballast and place the seeds where it's perfect. But again, I don't place the seeds directly on top of the
ballast as this can be too hot.

In the Summer, I don't use heating methods for seed germination as it's already warm enough.

I just do the fluorescent ballast thing in Winter when it's cold.

As the seeds germinate they are planted under the fluorescent fixture.

I have started all my seedlings under T5 lights in a seedling tray/dome once they are ready.

I have a LED and I experimented with a few seedlings and they seemed to do great under them. About 2.5 foot above the seedlings.

Anyone else do that?

Im home and Im starting the next few seeds

Mwahahahahahahaha..........

seedling to 12/12

After re reading Corky1968's rewrite of controlling sativa growth I am going to try that basic method. Controlling the root growth at the right times.

Going 12/12 from seedling I have done successfully already to help limit the growth of my plants. PCK X Kali China

I have also read about going 13/11 light period for growing Sativas.

I will look up some posts on that subject but if anyone cares to comment. Its my first Sativa grow.

from Deepwaterdude----

I vegged at 15-16hrs light, then worked my way down to 10.5, dropping 1/2 hr per week or something. At this point I keep the tent at 11/13 and mark the first day in the tent on the pots, along with their first flowering day. This one showed pistils a week or two earlier, but she had real flowers on April 26th. She's going outside in a week or two to finish, but I've got plenty of smoke for the moment, there's no way she's getting chopped early

I found it hard to finish the plants with LED, as if they could've gone forever. That was years ago, though, and I've seen some ridiculous finishes since. Technology has come a loooong way.

Hrmm, don't plan on vegging quite so long....

Levitationofme, I hope to see some pics soon. How are your ladies doing? For germinating I place seeds directly into 6" pots. I turn on one 600 watt HPS and two 105 watt cfl's and keep moist. They get two weeks under lights and then get booted outside. I'm very harsh on seedlings, any plant that looks week or wobbly gets culled. I then drop another seed and start over. It reduces the babysitting down the road. With Ace seeds it is not an issue. For my own cross hybrids if a seed doesn't look full, mottled and mature they get fed to the birds. Peace
