Question any tips for propagating roses?

i got a nice old breed of roses with a delightful smell and am thinking about rooting some cuttings (in pots) to give away to friends for their garden.
any tips?
potsize?
how long before you can plant them outside?
can i use rooting gel for cannabis?
do they need special fertilizer or can i just use some old canna bloom ferts i have sitting around?

Most roses are grafted on to a more vigorous / disease resistant root stock. No harm in trying some cuttings...or maybe do an air layer.

Cuttings work well, green cuttings root faster than woody. Use rooting hormone, softwood for green, semi hardwood for small woody ones. Use mist or humidity domes and keep misted.

I like to use early season shoots that are about about a foot tall. 3 weeks in very low light (basement with window) then transition slowly to outside shade. Should be rooted by heat of summer if you take them early enough.

I have been doing the same with my fruit trees instead of taking cuttings in the fall.

i'm thinking about using a bottomless plastic bottle (no cap) as humidity dome.

hey max ..take your cutting , a piece a bit thicker than a pencil , and dip the ends in honey or rooting hormone . it really makes no difference ..
then plant them about four or five inches deep in your pot and put them somewhere warm and out of any wind ..you really don't need any humidity as they are quite tough , unless you live somewhere that's just bloody cold !
do plenty as they do need to be grafted onto rootstock for them to have a long happy life .. good luck with it all .
