CannaZen will become famous soon enough
@Kalbhairav

a paki/indica x18 cross also sounded worth exploring for me.

Have you considered crossing the x18 with the rsc chitrali release?

Hey CannaZen,

Yeah, I'd considered it. The Chitrali from RSC is a pretty unworked landrace. Even though the X18 has always been open pollinated I think Tom probably did some culling of the undesirable plants (maybe? Not sure). I think if I used the Chitrali then it would be like diluting the X18.. Unless I grew out 200 odd Chitrali I wouldn't really be able to find a suitable mother. This is why I'd prefer to use an S1 of something proven.. Also since space is an issue..

I've recently come into some of Bodhiseeds old NL#5 f4s and might have another pure bred Pakistani line coming shortly. Like I keep saying, we'll see (in fact I'm a bit behind)

I'll get pics up of cuttings etc soon. Seed plants are big and surviving outdoors in small pots. When cuttings are completely rooted the seed plants will probably be culled.

Inbreeding from a small gene pool has it's problems. Better yet inbreed in a large pool and hybrid!

The best strain to make an hybrid is imho deep chunk. Then to do a big selection and cross with x18..

A little update...

Here's a few pics of cuttings..

I put all the cuttings in a trough under my cfl just sex and collect pollen. There seems to be 3 of each males and females. I've got separate cuttings of the females in the greenhouse.

In the trough I put two cuttings of each plant which is why there's more than six in there. The plants at the end stretching like crazy are males. The other male is on the far left.

And here's the two females (the cuttings of the other female didn't make it except for one, which is outside in the GH)

The males really stretched while the fems stayed squat. The plants are now all bent over for pollen collection.

Sorry for crappy pics.....

Nice bro!!

Do you gona do a selection or let every male pollinate every female?

Mine (50 seeds) are waiting in the frigo.

I'll probably open pollinate all of them. IMO there's no point in wasting genetic traits if you've got a small population. Males hide so much that they don't show..

Yes thats right. If I get enough plants I gona do a small selection when I made my own x18 seeds. Do you gona report the plants which come out of the seeds you make? are your mals cuts or seedplants? Do you keep them?

I understand why you were hesitant to open pollinate them. But, if everyone only gets a few to germ and grow, and they also choose not to open polli, then the strain will certainly die out.

Good choice to go ahead with the open polli. Maybe if all of us with X-18 do that, we can manage to get seeds to each other.

A 2nd open polli with seeds from 3-4 others would go a long way to not bottle-necking the line.

You can still use other WLD females too. MLI might make a good choice or Toms PTK. I haven't tried World of Seeds offerings yet, but they supposedly have some pure WLDs - Afghan Kush, Ketama and Pakistan Valley. Then theres Peyote Purple/Bubba...
