For anyone who likes the sound of bigbadbiddy’s pulled beef sandwich, here’s a variation of it that’s excellent and incredibly easy. It’s one of those recipes I’ve had for years and still make on a somewhat regular basis.

Italian Beef Hoagies:

1 boneless sirloin tip roast (about 4 pounds), halved
2 envelopes Italian salad dressing mix
2 cups water
1 jar (16 ounces) mild pepper rings, undrained
18 hoagie buns, split

Place roast in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Combine the salad dressing mix and water; pour over roast. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until meat is tender. Remove meat; shred with a fork and return to slow cooker. Add pepper rings; heat through. Spoon 1/2 cup meat mixture onto each bun. Yield: 18 servings.

I cut this recipe in half. I don’t have an army to feed. I also do not remove the meat to shred it. I do so right in the crockpot. After shredding the beef and adding the peppers I then cook it down until all liquid had been absorbed/cooked off. I serve on toasted hoagie buns with pepper jack cheese and shredded lettuce. This is so easy and sooo good! And it will make your house smell wonderful.

And yep, it’s even better as leftovers. Makes for excellent munchie food.
There is room around the fire for you and your Italian Beef Hoagies.
I will have to try that one out soon.

Positive Vibes Lester
Just an hour ago I was up in the cherry tree harvesting and I swear I ate more then I have on the fruit stand lol. 100+ year old black cherry tree, soooo oo good! Then I read this haha that's quite the timing eh? My place is big enough for all and the gardens have enough food for a few towns, so anytime folks!

And to whoever mentioned cooking a meal when having the munchies, well that's half the fun. I try to make the most delicious meal, and the wait/prep is well worth it!

Cheers!!!
I have 40lbs of chicken marinating for the wood grill, I can't wait. A few friends and some cold beers around the fire. Yeehaw! (Sorry Trout, that was yeehaw worthy lol)

Works as well

The secret (I think) really is the slow cooking process and to cook until all liquid has been soaked up/cooked in.
That and the fact that, as you pointed out, that stuff is even better as a leftover.

The other day I used some of the left over pulled/shredded beef and used it to make some fried rice (had some leftover rice). Just threw some veggies in there and fried it up all together. Served with a sunny-side-up egg on top and some spring onions chopped and sprinkled over.

Have also eaten/served the shredded beef with noodles or potatoes before. Works well every time.

Om nom nom nom nom nom

The fact that it keeps well in the fridge and tastes even better when re-heated is very important imho to qualify as munchie food.

The only drawback is that you need some foresight as you can't just make it the moment the munchies kick in. Gotta have that stuff prepared...

But you will never open your fridge and say "aw man, why did I prepare so much pulled beef?!?" nonono

You will always say "aw right, I still have some pulled beef! Honey, I know what's for dinner today!"

It’s an honor to be invited!

I’ve yet to share that recipe with anyone who didn’t enjoy it. I like zippy/spicy foods so I go with the Zesty, over the regular Italian Dressing. Forgot to mention that. And I usually like seasoned curly fries on the side.

Seriously. I agree. I’ve found that this is definitely the key to it... it’s usually closer to a twelve hour cook than eight (with my crockpot) by the time it’s cooked in and there’s no liquid.

Yeah, nice entry. It’s been awhile. I’m going to have to make up a batch soon. I’ve always wondered how it would be if I substituted jalapeños for the banana peppers, or maybe went half and half... but I’ve yet to be that brave because I know just how good it is, as is... would hate to ruin a batch.
