When there is thread clean up by moderators to keep content peaceful and on topic, there is content that gets hidden from our view as the user but still registers in the page numbers... after a while they get too far out of whack and it junks up the system and is harder to keep clean on the admin side... So they start a fresh one of the same topic and go from there.

At least that is what I was led to understand...
