Malawi Poison
I'm reminded of a time, about 15 years ago, that I sampled a Malawi cob x DP stick, grown large outdoors at about 25 S, 1300 m.
It smelled earthy, spicy, lemony and the taste was very much like pepper. The high was strong and complex and came on in waves over 3-4 hours. It made my friend think his teeth were coming loose! good times . Since then I've had it in mind to make this cross, if for no other reason than nostalgia. Thanks Charlie for making these available.

I grew Durban in 1983 , it was ready October 1st , I grew the Durban cut from the Natural Cannabis Co. , the clone lady is very nice and told me the clones were grown from Seeds of Africa seed , it was ready Dec. 2nd and was light and fluffy and massive the buds were purple and had a berry taste , nothing like the tight , early , licorice Durban I grew 31 years ago , what can I say , many many phenotypes I am sure .

I had luck and purchased 60 pieces of old stock Durban from High Quality Seeds in an Dutch Grow Shop a few years ago. High Quality Seeds doesnt exist anymore.I think the owner runs now Royal Queen Seeds. Perfect mid-potent sunshine weed from the 80s, very joyfull and euphoric with that typical anisseed /liquorice smell.Fast finisher. Durban from Sensi Seeds or Dutch Passion is fast flowering too but had a more Indica type of high. Most of the "New" generation Durban had a longer flowering time and a more racy, sometimes narcotic type of high. Glad i have my "Oldschool-Durban". |

CBG DURBAN 37 days 12/12 from seed on the left, DP Durban Poison 30 days 12/12 fs on the right.
the indica traits in the DP Durban Poison line are quite obvious, while the CBG DURBAN grows more like a true landrace sativa, imo! (note that the DP Durban Poison is one week behind and the buds are already more developed than the CBG Durbans´buds..) they are still stretching..in the next round 12/12 from clone they gonna need some LST or topping to fit in my setup, i guess. ..found also a nice male and make F2´s and crosses with Malawi, Guatemala, Malana..all pure sativas..: ) ..i´m pretty happy with this breed so far, for me this looks like a south african sativa should do.

Very nice man, thanks for the pics. DP's Durban is obvioulsy Durban/Skunk or a similar hybrid, unlike this other imported south african.
Peace. |

this is from the DP homepage:
"During the breeding process some unknown indica genetics have been crossed with Durban. Durban may initially show wide indica style leaves but the growth pattern allows the sativa dominance to show by the end with long blooms pierced by slim sativa-style leaves." the bud formation of the DP is much faster in the first weeks of flowering than on all my other landrace sativas which are Guatemala, Malawi, Malana atm..from the first pistills to the first small buds was maybe just a week with the DP, and the CBG Durban or ACE Malawi (for example) needs at least 14 days, the Malawi may rather need 21 days from my observation (all grown 12/12 fs). the Durban shows also more vegetative growth under 12/12 and has more lateral branches than the DP. ..i´m gonna make a few more pics to compare in a few weeks : ) |

DP is bit of a puzzle there, if you look at mel franks Mj grower´s insider guide, there´s photo of vegging DP. wide, almost rounded leaves, but open structure, wide internodes. and it´s supposedly selections made inside genepool of imported SA bagseed, and these types are known in south african genepool. nepalese and northern indian cannabis seem also exhibit similar traits. and didn´t SA have like massive indian population.
