Quick curing/storing question.

the other day i was at wal-mart (i know, it's my favorite store too), and i picked up two large clamping jars. only problem...they are made of plastic.

they are perfect in every other way, straight edges, wide mouth etc.

is there a huge benefit to going with glass? i am worried that too many things will static-cling to the plastic, but i havent found large glass ones anywhere.

have any of you used the plastic ones before?

if not...where could i get glass ones at a decent dollar?

thanks for the insight.

I use the Ball Jars, the one quart size, picked up a case of them at OSH. They seal airtight and do a fine job. Good luck.

My jars look identical to KGB47's but they are spaghetti sauce jars that have been thoroughly cleaned and dishwashered. Jars say Atlas Mason on the side and do the trick nicely.

Aren't spaghetti jars NOT air-tight?

Jars intended to hold dried spaghetti probably aren't airtight, but those used to hold spaghetti sauce almost certainly are (they need to be to preserve the sauce).

I use brown glass jars that previously held hot chocolate, the seal on them is airtight (though obviously not as strong as the seal on preserving jars, which is designed to cope with internal pressure significantly higher than atmospheric), and the brown glass means I don't have to worry too much about keeping them in the dark.

search wire clamp jars on eBay. I scored some sweet black glass, square, widemouth jars there for cheap. The large one will hold 2-O's easy. Get them by the case if you want too.
