My new work-in-progress stealth cabinet
Just looks like an ordinary piece of furniture on the outside...
but on the inside... Here's a shot of some pretty nice bag seed that I'm going to be starting off with. I've been trying to reveg her for several weeks now, she's finally starting to take off. My cabinet dimensions are 54" high, 28.5 " wide, and 15" deep, on the inside. There's 30" from the bottom of the bulb to the cabinet floor. I've got an Elicent 4" centrifugal inline fan cooling things down, it's around 105 CFM, and a little noisy for a true stealth cabinet so I'll be using something external to mask the noise. I built my own carbon scrubber using this tutorial. I made the reflector out of a piece of 8" diameter aluminum duct I picked up from home depot for 6 bucks. I just cut it to size, and bent it to my desired shape. I'm planning on putting up a half circle screen around the bulb for a scrog variation inspired from this thread. To be continued... |

Nice job dude!!
You can reduce your fan noise a bit if you can find some way to suspend it with bunji cord or bicycle inner tube. Screwing the brackets directly to the ceiling just transfers its' vibration to the cab turning it into one big speaker. Bh |

this cab looks pretty wicked!!
im actually just about to start building my own grow box, and im racking my brains trying to come up with ideas... i have a really good bedroom cabinet that i am going to be modding... but my light is a 400w HPS, so i am going to have to have it ventilated to the max to keep things at the right temps... somthing along the same lines of this cab would be perfect for my needs... |

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. For my first run I'll be using my 250 watt metal halide for both veg and flower.
Bipedal, I was actually initially wanting to bungie up the fan somehow but I couldn't find any bungie cords short enough for one thing. Also I'm thinking it would cost me a couple inches in height that I really dont want to give up. Could you elaborate on the bicycle tube a bit? Would I use that as a cushion like rubber washers? I do have a couple rubber washers between the bracket and the top of the cabinet but they don't seem to be helping much if at all. Maybe if I had some thicker rubber material up there it be quieter? There is definitely alot of noise due to vibration, specially when the fan is turned down on the speed dial. Basically my cabinet is too loud for my liking at any speed setting. This is my biggest issue I'm thinking about right now. My first thought is to use a fan on top of my cabinet or maybe some background noise from my computer around the cabinet to help mask its noise. I'm looking into setting up an X10 home automation motion detection system in the room of my cabinet so that if anyone enters the room the fan power is cut off until movement is gone for a period of time. blunted, I'm actually considering putting a 400 in this cabinet at some point. I'm pretty confident, with my huge fan, temperatures won't be a problem, as long as I have plenty of passive air intake. I won't know for sure till I drill out my intake holes and perform some tests. Good luck with your cabinet, looking forward to seeing it. Durban, Yep I got the mylar waiting to be put up. I just gotta pick up some silver flat thumb tacks to get it up there. I can't wait to see it with the mylar. Hell I can't wait to get my woman in there to sunbathe. |

Hey, I'm figuring out the logistics of a somewhat similar setup, (400w w/465cfm) this looks excellent, I was going to use my closet and then put something like this cab full of clothes and crap infront of the door so if someone should come in they won't even know there's a closet. (unless its the landlord or someone who knows the apt., in which case they'll think its storage). The only problem would be sound.

there's gotta be a cheaper and simpler way to do this then the x10 though... I'm gonna do some research but if anyone has any ideas this would be cool to talk more about. |
